Undoubtedly, one of 2005's most anticipated releases.

New reviews posted today along with a report back from that Turbonegro one-off show in LA. Cheers!

Live report: Turbonegro @ House of Blues 12/19/04

Turbonegro has revealed that their new album will be called "Babylon forever" and is being produced by Steve McDonald of Redd Kross. It's the first time the band has worked with an outside producer and apparently the results are "nothing less than astounding!" Some of the song titles said to be included are "City of Satan", "Wasted again" and "Blow me (like the wind)". Look for it around April 2005.

They might not have the best band name around, nor the best singer, or the most original song ideas, well, in fact Wild Evil Entertainment Dept. are so unoriginal that it took me quite a few days before I came to the conclusion that this is actually a pretty darn good debut album. For what it is (standard rock'n'roll) the songs are not all steeped in exactly the same mold, they seem influenced by everything from Turbonegro ("Deadbull City") to the Dead Kennedys ("Gotta get some love"), and some verses strongly evoke the arrogance of Caesars Palace (aka The Caesars), which is pretty impressive in my book. Oh, I just realized that Turbonegro are not really that far away musically from Dead Kennedys, but heck, you know what I mean, or if you don't, here you go (dumb ass): This is a fine album packed with melodic and dirty rock'n'roll.

Ulver says that they are done with the film business for now. Their latest soundtrack project "Uno" has been quite successful in Norway with over 200k visitors in the firth month and a prize at the EuropaCinema festival in Italy. Bonnier Amigo Music Norway has released a soundtrack album, but the group's own label Jester will be putting out their own eventually as well. Coming out next will be the soundtrack to "Blood Inside" which features guest guitar work from Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa) and various instrumentation and improv work from UK singer/songwriter Tom McRae and band. Their own words: "It is running cold and the brain is receiving it and interpreting and transmitting again and again and again. It is making us sick. A baroque thing, beyond all good taste."
But that's not all! Ulver has also completed a collaboration with Stephen O'Malley and SUNN O))) that they describe as "a 15 min. epic with Julian Cope speaking out of the dark." Swedish radio has commisioned the piece for broadcast and it will also be released on the SUNN O))) "White" 4xLP box set scheduled for release this spring. Lastly, Ulver has recorded a downtempo version of "Strange Ways" for an upcoming Norwegian Kiss tribute entitled "Gods of Thunder". Other acts set to appear on the album are Turbonegro and Gluecifer (of course) and it will be released sometime next year by VME in cooperation with the Norwegian Kiss Army.

Norwegian all-star band Scum is currently recording a new album at Crystal Canyon Studio in Norway which is owned by Euroboy of Turbonegro. The line-up sounds very promising - not only does it feature Samoth (Zyklon, ex-Emperor), Faust (ex-Emperor), Casey Chaos (Amen), Cosmocrator (Mindgrinder) and Happy Tom Seltzer (Turbonegro), but fellow ex-Emperor member Mortiis also contributes lyrics. That's practically a "Nightside Eclipse"-era reunion! Anyhow, the music is said to rooted in the tradition of 'True Norwegian Black Metal' blended with 'punk rock attitude' and 'aggressive hooks'. There's no label or release date confirmed yet, but some of the song titles are "Gospels for the Sick", "The Truth Will Be Sold" and "Hate the Sane". Read more: http://www.scumband.com/
