has released a new 12" single from The Je Ne Sais Quoi featuring a 10-minute version of "Protection" off their forthcoming record "Transparent for you all" along with a Richard Brain remix of the same. 300 copies, more info here: http://www.moptacodics.com/
Swedish indie/punk/funk act The Je Ne Sais Quoi will release their new album "Transparent for you all" on April 5 via the band's own label and will only be available either as a digital download or vinyl. This will be the band's first recordings with new drummer Pontus Levahn (Tiger Lou, Torpedo, etc.) and you can hear a few sample tunes (and read more about it) at myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thejenesaisquoi
The more stuff I get rid of in my ongoing clearance sale, the more old stock I discover -- many titles once labelled out of stock from artists such as Firefox AK, Hello Saferide, The Je Ne Sais Quoi, David & the Citizens, Vapnet, El Perro Del Mar and others are now being relisted, some of them at new, lower prices. But! Bear in mind that many of these are limited to one or maybe two copies each, so you better act fast if you want one: [click here]
Experimental/noise label Moptaco Dics has a new 40-minute cassette out now from Nightvision Campers, the duo of Dan Johansson from Sewer Election and label boss Daniel Fagerström (The Skull Defekts, The Je Ne Sais Quoi, Optic Nest). It's called "Golden hiss" and is described as being "based ONLY on white noise and hiss, the band has created a techno-like sound, without any hints of dance."
Will Gambola Sing, the Stockholm-based instrumental act featuring John Roger Olsson (The Grand Opening), Jimmy Ottosson (The Je Ne Sais Quoi), solo artist Mikko Singh, Joakim Labraaten (Yamon Yamon) and Anders Ljung (Ohm), are back after an extended 2-year nap and are offering their debut 4-song EP "Overheard dialogue reconstructed " as a free download: http://willgambolasing.com/overheard-dialogue-reconstructed-ep/
As I said when I first them, this is great stuff -- very dreamy and extremely well-crafted. Definitely recommended!
Chronic Heist has officially called it quits -- keep an eye on the members' other bands: The Skull Defekts, The Je Ne Sais Quoi and Gösta Berlings Saga.
Moptaco Dics, the DIY label run by Daniel "Fagge" Fagerström of The Skull Defekts/The Je Ne Sais Quoi, has two new cassette releases out now -- first is Vic Sinex' "Live at Ny Tid Ny Strid" which is somewhat self-explanatory, but also contains rehearsal tape content. Second is Mattias Gustafsson's (Altar of Flies) debut under his own name "Död metall", a release described as a smooth handgesture to John Carpenter soundtracks, pre-sequencer Tangerine Dream and the dirt of Rune Lindblad." The clock-face silkscreen on this one-sided EP is almost enough to make the record worth purchasing, but the quality of the music seals the deal. The title track continues very much in the punk-funk/disco direction of recent album "Rhythm", further raising the bar with a squiggly synth bassline, plentiful hand-claps and prominent keyboard arpeggios. Follow-up track "I read the signs" goes for a more syncopated attack and leans far heavier toward the disco side of things. It's not as immediately catchy as "Making love with time", but it more than makes up for it by being a far more fully realized composition with many intricate parts and a superb vocal arrangement. Lastly, the Eester Benny remix of "Rhythm" brings it all together, layering complicated harmonies and patterns over an even squigglier, liquid bass track. What else can be said? Three out of three is alright by me. - Avi Roig
New item now in-stock: Various Artists - The shameless kiss of vanity (CS)
Yessir, a cassette tribute to The Cure featuring great artists such as Cut City, Las Quiete, The Je Ne Sais Quoi and more! Good stuff, not to mention it goes to show that old-school tech is the new new-school.
Gbg-based label Release the Bats (see our recent interview) has finally released the long-awaited Cure tribute "The shameless kiss of vanity III" on limited edition cassette (250 copies). Said comp featuring 8 bands such as Cut City and The Je Ne Sais Quoi covering the entirety of The Cure's classic "Pornography" album from start to finish. Unfortunately, the cassette dub came out a bit noisy, so the label is throwing in CDR copies with all orders which will include a few tracks from parts I and II. In other news, RTB has signed the excellent Swedish pop-punk act Hanna Hirsch and will be releasing their debut full-length "Tala svart" as a split with label Diskret Förlag. Hear samples: http://www.myspace.com/hannahirsch
