Live report: Tack! Tack! Tack! @ Heavenly Social, London, 11/14/05
I'm not gonna lie. The build up to this gig was pretty stressful. It was a last minute panic to sort out a backline for the bands to use, and when we eventually sorted it out me and Jason had to run around like headless chickens the whole day transporting it all over London..
The Fine Arts Showcase opened the proceedings. Unfortunately, I did not get to hear much of Gustav's set as I was on the door at the time. However, the response from the crowd was excellent. It was interesting to meet a Swede with such a strong American accent, which was due to Gustav's upbringing in the States. We Are Soldiers We Have Guns easily fit into Radio 2 category on record. However, this is no bad thing as the station is currently the most listened to in the UK. Live, they add a layer of electronica to their sound which makes them a bit more edgy and suitable to playing a an über trendy venue like The Social. Finally, The Lovekevins closed the proceedings. It was an honour to get them over to the UK for the first time. They are exactly the sort of band that we want to book for T!T!T!. Up and coming in Sweden, but not yet well-known nationally. The Lovekevins sit just on the right side of twee, and stake a claim to being lo-fi by using a cassette recorder to play samples on. They played most of the songs on their first two EPs "Blame The English" and the recently released "Max Leon". However, possibly their strongest song is the currently unreleased "Pink Tiger" which will be appearing on their debut album next year.
Thanks also goes out to Martin from Songs I Wish, who helped out on DJing duties. It was great to hear Girlfrendo and a whole pile of unreleased gems from his label.
