In case you haven't seen the news already, the webzine Stylus is closing down after today so they've posted their 2007 best song and best album lists. Scandinavian artists on the former include Weeping Willows and The Field while the former includes Dungen, Studio and The Field.

Irya Gmeyner's new 7" "The basement takes from Textilgatan" will be released on October 24 via her own Byker Wall label in cooperation with Universal Music. The 4-song EP was mixed by Ebbot Lundberg (The Soundtrack Of Our Lives) and features contributions from other TSOOL members as well as people from Bob Hund, Weeping Willows and more. Masterful. This album will make you readdress what you thought you knew of Brun. Smokey vox and bewitching string segments set stall on this career busting 17 song span of live tracks recorded towards the tail end of 2006. The collection foists great merit on her performances. At times Brun eclipes Åström, Weeping Willows, Madrugada in the bitter sweet stakes. The big sounds wailing blue, alt-country (I should be shot for using that description) on such 'beauts as "Lift me" (with equally beguiling Nina Kinert as opposed to Madrugada's Sivert Høyem), and the more up tempo "No. 6", are just two very strong highlights. "Balloon ranger" darts violin, the double bass. KT Tunstall would be proud of "So you did it again".

Many of the contributing acts such as Erik Ohlsson from Millencolin and Kimmo Kirvesmäki of Voice Of A Generation/The Accidents are sport fishermen themselves, so consider this a labor of love. Other contributing acts include The Hives, The Hellacopters, Millencolin, Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Backyard Babies, Moneybrother, Weeping Willows and Randy. It comes out on May 18.
