PopMatters reviews the epic one-song Meshuggah EP "I": http://popmatters.com/music/reviews/m/meshuggah-i.shtml
Much anticipated follow up for 2001 hit-record "Behind the music". As always, it's a trip down memory lane with songs reminding of Love, Stooges, Buffalo Springfield and what not. But also as always, they deliver really, really good songs and the production is right on the money. The first track "Believe I've found" is one of their greatest songs so far and "Song for the others" is also pure beauty. I can't wait to see this live.

After a two month break, Jaga Jazzist is back in the studio to wrap up their new album for an early 2005 release. They've now enlisted the help of producer Kåre Chr. Westrheim to finish tracking and to handle mixing. Kåre has worked with quite a few high profile Norwegian musicians including Gluecifer, Kaisers Orchestra and Odd Nordstoga. Check out pics from the sessions here: http://www.jagajazzist.com/v2/sql/newslist.php/
Honest to god, I'm not the type of person who'll dismiss a band on the sole grounds of them sounding like "millions of acts before them", but when I listen to The Lionheart Brothers EP "Colour contrast context" I can't help but to feel like an old bitter man who spent his teenage years in the swinging sixties and wore nothing but flares and listened to nothing but psychedelic pop and now spends his time constantly repeating how much better everything was "back then" and how the bands of today sound like soggy carbon copies of the bands he used to like forty years ago (crazy, huh?). Of course, most of these old farts deserve to be slapped out of their weird denial, but in the case of the Lionheart Brothers there's some truth to be found in these clichéd arguments, because not only do The Lionheart Brothers wear their influences a bit too much on their sleeves but they also sound more like a travesty rather than a heartfelt homage (lyrics like "I've been crying / I've been flying" hardly work in the Brother's favour but only add to the Spinal Tap feel). Nevertheless, it should be said that The Lionheart Brothers have a rather nice feeling for melodies, harmonies and all that, but if you're really into this sort of music I'd recommend you to go and check out the new The Soundtrack Of Our Lives album instead of anything by this dull Norwegian duo.

This new collection effectively replaces the previously issued comp "The Golden Age of Union Carbide Productions" and is being released to hopefully raise some interest for the (still) upcoming box set, now due out "probably after Christmas", according to frontman Ebbot. Didn't we hear that exact same thing last year? Anyhow, for those of you who aren't aware, UCP was the band whose core membership later became the founders of The Soundtrack of Our Lives. In related news, keep an eye out for the relaunch of the UCP website over at ucp.se.

The Soundtrack of our Lives will play two UK festivals in August: the Leeds Festival on the 27th and the Reading Festival on the 29th.
Division of Laura Lee - Das Not Compute (Burning Heart/Epitaph)
After the break-through release of "Black City", I'm glad to report that DoLL have managed to craft a more-than-worthy follow-up. They enlisted the production assistance of Kalle from The Soundtrack of Our Lives and it paid off. His sonic influence is obvious and goes beyond the requisite guest appearances from fellow TSOOL members Mattias Bärjed and Martin Hederos. It sounds like the band took a lot of time experiment with different tones and the end result is a strongly varied sonic palette. Taking cues from bands like Silverbullit, "Das Not Compute" also cranks up the fuzz-factor to 10 and layers it on thick. There's a couple tracks here and there that don't really go anywhere, but the stuff's that's good (such as the single "Dirty Love" and the epic "Breathe Breathe") more than makes up for it.
