MP3: The Skull Defekts - Millions

The Skull Defekts vs. The Bear Quartet. Göteborg vs. Luleå. Two bands of old-timers square off and everyone wins. Yes, even you.
BQ's new album "89" is officially released on 9/9/9, but I have been informed that copies are already enroute to IAT HQ. Pre-order details will be up soon; in the meantime, this is essential listening.

New C40 from Nightvision Campers on Moptaco Dics

Experimental/noise label Moptaco Dics has a new 40-minute cassette out now from Nightvision Campers, the duo of Dan Johansson from Sewer Election and label boss Daniel Fagerström (The Skull Defekts, The Je Ne Sais Quoi, Optic Nest). It's called "Golden hiss" and is described as being "based ONLY on white noise and hiss, the band has created a techno-like sound, without any hints of dance."

Adrian selects 'Millions' as The Bear Quartet single

Adrian Recordings has announced that "Millions" will be the lead single from the new Bear Quartet album. Labelmate Adreas Tilliander will provide a b-side remix (a BQ first!) and The Skull Defekts will also contribute a cover version. Listen at myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thebearquartet

MP3: The Skull Defekts - Knives, birds, stones & pyramids

There are two version of The Skull Defekts' new album "The temple". First we have the CD version, an continuation of the "rock" direction exhibited by the band on "Blood spirits & drums are singing". Drums, guitar, vocals and more drums playing riff-oriented jams -- they may not usually concede to typical pop idioms such as verses, chorus and so-on, but it most definitely rocks in solid head-nodding fashion. We also have the 2xLP version of "The temple" which takes all of the the same songs as the CD and augments them with extra interludes, as recently heard on the more electronic/experimental/drone oriented "The drone drug" album. Personally, I prefer the former for it's more concise execution; as much as can appreciate the band's droning tendencies in all guises and forms, it's the rhythm-and-drum heavy sound that gets me going. "Knives, birds, stones & pyramids" is the opening salutation of "The temple" and it lays out everything you need to know: this is pure cult ritual set to a pounding beat and illustrated with cryptic symbols and pagan imagery. Sex and violence, man and beast -- it all comes together. In lesser hands, such other-worldly tourism might come across as preposterous, but they never over-sell it. Even without the message intact, as on the album's instrumentals, it's still all quality head-jammers.

Moptaco Dics, the DIY label run by Daniel "Fagge" Fagerström of The Skull Defekts/The Je Ne Sais Quoi, has two new cassette releases out now -- first is Vic Sinex' "Live at Ny Tid Ny Strid" which is somewhat self-explanatory, but also contains rehearsal tape content. Second is Mattias Gustafsson's (Altar of Flies) debut under his own name "Död metall", a release described as a smooth handgesture to John Carpenter soundtracks, pre-sequencer Tangerine Dream and the dirt of Rune Lindblad."
