Hanoi Rocks autobiography now available in English

Bazillion Points, the NYC-based publisher who put out the essential "Swedish Death Metal" book last year, is once again stepping up to release the first English-language edition of Hanoi Rocks guitarist/co-founder Andy McCoy's autobiography "Sheriff McCoy: Legend of Hanoi Rocks". The book is 204 pages and includes "dozens of rare candid photos, a deluxe embossed cover, a lengthy select discography spanning three decades of rarities, and a new 2009 preface written by McCoy after the final breakup of Hanoi Rocks." In other Bazillion Points news, keep an eye out for a new Daniel Ekeroth book on Swedish Exploitation Cinema and in 2010, an anthology of legendary Norwegian metal zine Slayer Mag.

MP3: Hanoi Rocks - Malibu Beach nightmare

Hard to believe that I've never done a Hanoi Rocks post in the (almost) five years I've been doing this site. It's ridiculous, though I must admit I'm barely a casual fan. Like most folks, I first heard of the band via Guns n' Roses who cited them as huge influence. They didn't make much of an impression at that time, but having revisited them since, I've discovered quite a bit more to like and "Malibu Beach nightmare" definitely ranks way up there. Coming off of "Strange boys play weird openings" from the "Back to Mystery City" album, this is an awesome way to kick things off in a big way. You get bits of the Ramones (that beat!) and the Sex Pistols (that riff!) as well as plenty of good old-fashioned rock'n'roll. A Michael Monroe sax solo? Why not! This is perfect Friday party music.

Finnish rockers The Flaming Sideburns have resigned to Bad Afro after taking a five year hiatus and will release a new 12-song compilation entitled "Back to the grave" on May 8. The disc features six unreleased songs recorded around the time of the albums "Hallelujah Rock'n'Rollah" and "Sky Pilots", two vinyl-only b-sides from the "Hallelujah Rock'n'Rollah" sessions, two rare compilation tracks and a "storming tribute" to Kike Turmix on the song "Bamalama" featuring Michael Monroe (Hanoi Rocks). The comp also features one brand new track called "Black Moon" to help build up anticipation for the upcoming brand-new full-length, due out later this year.

Todd Youth's Heartaches is the name of a new international supergroup featuring Todd Youth (ex-Murphy's Law, D-Generation, Danzig) backed by Sami Yaffa (ex-Hanoi Rocks, Jetboy, now with New York Dolls) and Danny Young (ex-Gluecifer). The band will begin recording their debut album in LA later this month, tentatively due out early 2006 via Acetate Records.
