A picture disc of the band's album "Badlands" will be released later this month via Combat Rock Industry.

Finland's Fullsteam Records was named indie label of the year at the finnish Music&Media Industry Awards last weekend. Coming up next for the label will the debut label from Damn Seagulls, entitled "One night at Sirdie's". The CD hits on January 1 and the vinyl comes out beforehand sometime in December. After that, the label will be putting out Disco Ensemble's second album. The band will begin recording at Fascination Street Studio (ex-Kuling) with Jens Bogren (Millencolin, Soilwork, Deep Insight) in November and should be ready for release in February.

Jazzpuu/Sähko Recordings will be releasing a CD of 13 previously unreleased songs from legendary finnish jazz singer Carola recorded way back in 1966 this coming November .

Es, Kiila and Kemialliset Ystävät from finnish avant label Fonal Records will be doing a special showcase gig at the Subcurrent festival in Glasgow on February 5 next year.

finnish music download site For Your Ears is moving to a LAME-encoded 256k VBR MP3 format. Finally, someone who understands that sound quality is important and is willing to adjust, file size be damned. Maybe some folks can deal will all those 128k mp3s most people sell, but they give me a headache. Anyhow, the catalogue is slowly being converted and everyone will be able to download new versions of tracks they already have paid for. In other FYR news, Exogenic Breaks will be adding their label's catalogue (Accu, Brothom States, Reuna and PJVM) to the site shortly.

These finnish goths do a great job at emulating the songwriting of Joy Divison and classic Cure, but lose me with the out-of-tune, marble-mouth vocals. Their press materials and general all-around musical competence proves that they know what they're doing, but they still need to work on it to get it right. All in all, it's really not all that bad for what's essentially a three-song demo. There's potential, for sure. Lord knows I've heard plenty of other bands attempt similar stuff in this genre and have it be thousands of times worse.
