Dubreggae, Jazz, Electronica, Whatever. Anything goes for Kroko Roc and DJ Street Kobra of Helsinki-based duo Uusi Fantasia. Often it leads to the greatest finnish party you’ve had since the days of über-cultband Op:l Bastards (DJ Street Kobra is in fact Vilunki 3000, ex member of Op:l Bastards). Singles "Takaisin" and "Lattialla taas" are really good songs and there’s more stuff for your sauna-party here. Unfortunately it also, at times, leads to a maybe little too unfocused album. But fuck that, 6 songs out of 12 is good enough for me. It should be for you too.

Apocalyptica, the finnish all-cello classical crossover success-story, is looking to take it to the next level with their new single "Bittersweet", due out on November 29. The track features guest vocals from what I suppose are two of Finland's biggest rockstars: Lauri Ylönen of The Rasmus and Ville Valo of HIM. The song was written as a collaboration between the band and the two frontman and is the first single from the band's new album, due out early next year. A video was filmed in Helsinki with director Antti Jokinen (Nightwish, Celine Dion, Shania Twain) as well.

Nightwish frontwoman Tarja Turunen recently spent some time at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki with producer Esa Nieminen recording two tradition finnish Christmas songs ("En Etsi Valtaa, Loistoa" and "Kun Joulu On") for what will be her first-ever solo CD single. It's due out in Finland sometime in December, for obvious reasons.

New mp3 today from the finnish noiserock band Fun. I totally flipped for these guys the very first time I heard a track I downloaded at their website. I knew immediately that I wanted to work with them which is why they are on the upcoming "Reader's companion" compilation, due out very soon. Their sound is very much rooted in the Chicago/Touch & Go/Steve Albini tradition, but they make it their own. You'd think there would be a lot more bands attempting to play this sort of stuff, but thankfully it is not the case. Anyhow, these guys rule so check them out and buy their new album "Szklarska poreba" out now on If Society.
