If the idea of mixing shoegazey blues harmonica in with Suicide-style minimalism appeals to you, you will dig Straight from the Harp. "Dancing slow" is the 2nd video from the duo's upcoming album "I'm on fire just for you", due out May 29.
Suicide-style minimalism as performed by Stockholm-via-Gävle bedroom act Nervnest. Shame that the other tunes I checked out are nowhere near as good as this, but then again, most acts don't even get that far.
I'm not sure exactly what this means, but apparently the estate of Ingmar Bergman have pre-listened to some of Dödsvarg's upcoming release and giving approval for the project to move forward: http://www.Suiciderecords.se/news.asp?id=9
Swedish industrial act Agent Side Grinder are teaming up with their genre forefathers Suicide for a split live cassette recorded at a concert in Lausanne, Switzerland last year and released on ASG's own label. The official release date is March 23 and it will be available from the band's website or on tour.
has announced the signing of Dödsvarg, a new act featuring ex-member(s?) of Detektivbyrån that they describe as "a mixture of Meshuggah and Skitsystem," so uh, yeah -- don't go expecting anything like what came before.

I make no secret of my allegiance to the sound of modern old-man hardcore. Give me a band full of dudes who are old enough to know better playing angry mid-tempo rock and chances are high I'll be stoked. And seeing as how We Live In Trenches just had a CD version of their album "Modern hex" released by , I figure it's due time I posted another track from them. I've actually been listening to the record a lot too, as I only semi-recently tracked down an affordable domestic copy of the vinyl and received a digital promo for easy gym-listening. Shame that bassist/vocalist Anna Knutsson recently parted ways with the guys though, as she provided a nice counterbalance to the male-dominance as well as a little something extra to distinguish them from other like-minded acts, but whatever -- life goes on and people gotta do their thing. Us guys still gotta blow off some steam as we age and get balder/fatter/slower/angrier.
"Toast to M" is oddly cheery sounding for a song about Suicide, but I suppose that's the point. It's about making peace, not wallowing in misery. It's also an obvious standout on Britta Persson's new record "Current affair medium rare", which is one of three great new Swedish albums out this season, all fairly obvious picks from established artists. As with the others, one of Britta's best qualities is her consistent progression -- she abandoned straightforward girl-with-a-guitar based songwriting with previous album "Kill Hollywood me" and has now gone further into rhythm-heavy composition, building songs around memorable beats. Naturally, having someone as gifted as Per Nordmark (Fireside, Bad Hands, etc... playing Friday at Debaser Malmö for IAT! Clubnights) as your sideman certainly helps, but let's not diminish Britta's wonderful phrasing, among other highpoints. There's lots to like, moreso on the record as a whole.
Also note that Britta Persson will be one of Club Killers' special "secret" guests at Strand on October 8 where she will be singing "Bleeding love" and "Kids in America" with the band. So there you go, two must-see shows on each side of Sweden. I won't be anywhere close, but I would if I could.
Swedish label will be doing a CD release of We Live in Trenches' full-length debut "Modern hex". The vinyl came out earlier this year via and is highly recommended for anyone into rocked-out punk ala Fucked Up.
