I know not everyone out there has a memory like me, especially in these short-attention span times of instant gratification, but if you remember / act Now from way back when, they've flipped their name to Won and have a new LP out on imprint . Details/ordering info here: http://psychicmalmo.com/index.php?/project/psyke010/2/
I've yet to hear them myself, but I those dudes generally have good taste so I bet it's worth checking out.
will be opening a physical retail outlet for records + clothes in Umeå: http://nomethod.se/?p=154
If /Rundgång can do it in Malmö, I don't see why it won't work up north.
Check out Won, a new signing to the spinoff label : http://www.myspace.com/wearewon
The one track missing from the vinyl release of "89" gets a platter all its own, paired with a cover of the same by Göteborg noiseniks The Skull Defekts and released on the imprint of Malmö-based . Though The Bear Quartet has toned down the antagonistic experimentalism that peaked with 2006's "Eternity now", the lyrical sentiment remains pure contempt, as is most often the case with latter-day BQ tracks featuring words penned by Mr. Mattias Alkberg. Needless to say, I love it, especially when they pair their anger with a refined, stripped-down postpunk approach as is on display here. As for the flip, The Skull Defekts don't remake the track as much as you might expect, though they do amplify the noise and aggression quotient, taking the sublime and turning it darkly sinister. Less subtle, to be sure, but no less effective. Not sure about the pressing numbers, but the glued jacket and heavy black dustsleeve make it a package worth possessing.

Night Minutes is the new project of the always-charming Max J Hansson of the soon-to-be-departed Cut City in which he collaborates with Ms. Anna Knutsson of the likewise-great/still-going-strong We Live in Trenches (who still need to send me mp3s of the album btw). While it is surely a shame that CC is going under, the prospect of Max playing in a far more actively active band is far more exciting. You see, Max lives in Göteborg and the rest of those dudes live down in Malmö... it's not that far, but far enough to cause complications. With Night Minutes there are no such issues, just quality JAMC-inspired jangle noise. The Raveonettes are an obvious point of comparison too, though Night Minutes' fuzzy sheen is more trve lo-fi in comparison to the Dane's well-manicured gloss. Anyhow, "Sweetheart of the funeral" is my favorite of the three songs off their forthcoming self-titled debut EP, due out soon via offshoot -- heavy on the girl group vibe, but not overselling it. The female/male vocal tradeoffs in combination with the cheap and raw organ tones make for quality noisepop, that's really all there is to it. It's easy to like and I'm immediately smitten.

Swedish psych/weirdos Ved will release their debut album "Gershwins pipe" on July 17 via offshoot . There will be a release party at Club Babel in Malmö that same evening.
has posted a new track from Swedish postpunks Cut City for free download: http://www.deletedart.org/news.asp?newsID=113
The track is called "The sound and the sore" and it comes off the band's forthcoming full-length "Where's the harm in dreams disarmed" which, according to the band, will probably be their last.
This is completely and utterly everything and nothing at the same time. Much in the vein of the dance/noise/rock/everything and the kitchen sink of the Liars, PaperRad and other of their ilk, Knife and Ape just are equal part Nintendo music, rock, disco and post-punk. The vocals are much in the post-punk tradition and actually bring a certain cohesiveness to the whole thing, whatever that cohesiveness might be. Despite the fact that I seem lukewarm to the idea, this is highly enjoyable and I like it a lot. I can tell you that I like it a lot more than PaperRad and the Liars, which might not be saying much but certainly would be a vote of confidence in certain circles. It doesn't make any sense but when listening this on a strictly visceral level, it is pretty freaking great.
