Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson - s/t (Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson
s/t ("Puzzle" and "The detective")
How Is Annie Records

8

Let's get this out of the way: Yes, many critics are spot on when comparing Norway's Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson to both Appleseed Cast and Explosions in the Sky; if anything, this is about as apt a correlation as one can make. But as talented as both those groups are, there is a lot of territory left to explore between them, and Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson do a fantastic job rambling through this attractive region. On this self-titled release (split into two different parts: "Puzzle" and "The detective"), that hard to define, yet unmistakable sound that American labels like and made their names promoting is deftly evoked and subtly expanded, demonstrating that there is still plenty more room to grow in this particular subgenre without sacrificing any of the '90s indie nostalgia (an aspect the warm, analog-like recording quality helps to enhance). "Puzzle" and "The detective" are triumphant achievements, their contents mingling the contemplative with the immediate, the ethereal with the tangible, and all on YPOFH's own terms. Instead of being merely an echo of the past, YPOFH are very much their own voice, and one well worth listening to.

Zweizz & Joey Hopkins album to be released via Jester

Norwegian noisenik Zweizz had been working on a musical collaboration with American artist Joey Hopkins up until the latter's tragic untimely death in late 2008 and now, at long last, the project has been completed and will be released via . Says Zweizz: "I have tried to make an album that both his mother and the rest of his family can remember him by -- as well as being a statement that lives up to my somewhat idiosyncratic artistic standards. And of course, I can just assume that Joey would have approved of the songs in their respective final states. It can be difficult to kill the darlings of a friend who has already went onwards. I hope I have succeeded in this, and I want to share this music with as many people as possible to celebrate the memory of the immense talent of Joey Hopkins. It has been an honour to work with you." The album will simply be called "Zweizz & Joey Hopkins" and here is the final tracklist:

01. Eternal Puberty (feat. Ingrid Berge)
02. dWill to dPower / Tomorrow
03. Black Strobes (feat. Torgny Knutson Amdam)
