Supershine to release album in August

Danish postpunk-influenced pop act Supershine have signed with and will be releasing their debut full-length in August. The lead single "The ones who never live" is out now.

Something's rotten in Denmark?

Jeez, Denmark sure does excel at churning out endless amounts of the most mediocre electronic pop. Not to pick on Lydmor in particular, but so much of this stuff is just so aggressively bland, I don't know how they do it.

Two tracks of burly metal delivered with hardcore-level intensity, buoyed even further by a clean and powerful recording. I know I should've covered this ages ago when it first came out, but I've been too busy spinning the mp3s on repeat while pumping iron at the gym. Seriously though, if you want modern heaviness that delivers on the false promises of bands like Mastodon and High on Fire (face it, neither of those bands are all that hot), then you need Rising. The band gets better with every release and the fact that they manage to sound so tough without resorting to any sort of lunkheaded machismo is commendable as well. Can't wait to hear what they do next.

Death Token LP on the way

Long-running Copenhagen hardcore act Death Token will finally be releasing an LP via in the not-so-distant future. Entitled "All dreams are nightmares", the label says it sounds like "a massive recording mixing up classic raw Japanese and European hardcore punk with a Hellhammer meets Rudimentari Peni styled approach." Can't say that the song appeals to me, but the clip itself is very well done.

MP3: The Psyke Project - We came from Earth

Of the many things I love about this tune, one of the more subtle and killer aspects is the absolute lack of drum fills. The Psyke Project started life as an intensely mathy metalcore act, but over the years they've evolved steadily into a lean, mean, no-frills machine. The other thing I love about it: that ridiculously heavy breakdown at the end. It starts off so slow and empty and then only manages to get even more brutal as they hold notes and let them bend into feedback. The rest of their new split release "Ebola" with fellow Danes As We Fight is all just as good too, that is, aside from the other band's material. The less I say about them, the better.
