In a message posted to their web forum, the Weeping Willows have confirmed that they will be releasing a new single in January with an album to follow in February or March.
Revolver.nu has updated with features on Laakso and Niccokick along with their best songs of 2003 lists. (in Swedish)
There's a new Swedish supergroup in the works with Conny Nimmersjö from Bob Hund playing guitar, Jejo Perkovic from Bear Quartet on drums, Weeping Willows bassist Stefan Axelsen, Irya Gmeyner from Urga and Mats Levén (ex-Yngwie!) on vocals. They don't have a name yet, but recording of their debut album is set to begin in February with Soundtrack of Our Lives' keyboardist Martin Hederos making a guest appearance. Read more.
Weeping Willows vocalist Magnus Carlson's new single "Elin" comes out November 5, but the video premieres this Friday on ZTV at 19:30.
Click here for an interview with Magnus Carlson from Digfi.com. They discuss his new solo album and he expresses his opinion on a number of new bands, among other topics. He also reveals that Weeping Willows have 10-11 songs ready for their next record and have already demoed 4-5 of them. Once again, they plan to work with producer Johan Forsman and the material is supposedly a bit more guitar-heavy and uptempo.
The new Magnus Carlson website is now up and running with content. The new record comes out at the end of the month and sounds quite good from what I've heard. For those that are unaware, Magnus fronts the Weeping Willows and this will be his second solo release. Eggstone provides the backing music on the new one.
I suspect we're in for another relatively slow news day as it's a big festival weekend with Norweigan Wood and Hultsfred going on. If you're like me and not lucky enough to be attending those events yourself, maybe take some time to chat in the forum or sign up for the mailing list.

Look for an interview with Julie from the band Bobby in the upcoming issue of Solo, out July 20.
Wired for Mono will be heading into the Supersaturators' studio this weekend with engineer Fredrik Loreby and producer Henrik "Honk" Widén (Diamond Dogs). They say their aim to make a new demo of three or four songs, but seeing as how they always record live to tape, it might just end up getting a proper release anyhow.
Trewetha Records has made the new self-titled EP from The State of Floral Beings (TSOFB) available for full download with a printable cover for $3. Check it out. If you'd rather wait to get a hold of the real deal, the CD doesn't come out until August.
Dead Frog Records has announced they've signed the Göteborg-based band Leopold to their label. The band's debut album "Dreaming Is For Anyone" comes out August 21.
In other Dead Frog-related news, they've updated the demo reviews on their site, so head on over to see what bands are up-and-coming.
In Flames will support Metallica at Madrid Regional Government Sports Centre "La Peineta" in Madrid, Spain on June 22.
Been awhile since I heard anything about these guys: The Motorhomes have now been brought under the wing of Talent Trust Management. And they're in good company, as Olle Ljungström, Parker, Weeping Willows, Kent Norberg, and The Cardigans are just a few of the other artists managed by the company. Now howabout a new album?
Captain Murphy has signed with Bonnier Music. The band did a vinyl EP with producer Pontus Frisk in May and should be available this weekend at Hultsfred. The first single comes out in August with the full-length to follow soon after.

Hello all, thanx a million for the GREAT support from both old and new fans on In Flames/Mudvayne tour in the US. We had a great time, and as usual we met some really cool people on the road( talking about you, our wonderful fans) and we made some good friends in the other bands- Mudvayne, Grade 8, and Depswa - we really hope to meet up again soon!!!!
On the way home we were forced to make an emergency landing in New Foundland, due to some strange objects on the aircraft that needed closer attention. This of course scared the hell out of us, but luckily it was false alarm, so as we speak we are in Sweden, jet-lagged as hell, but really glad to be on safe ground at home again.
In the end of June we will go back on the road again on a headline spin across the US, bringing some great acts along with us (see soon for official update on this). The tour will take us to places we didn´t hit on the last tour and some that we did play... Hope to see ALL of you out there. Also, watch out for our video/EP for "Trigger" that will be out very soon

Jeremy Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel and Bablicon)
Howe Gelb (Giant Sand)
Espen Mellingen (Ai Phoenix and Poor Rich Ones)

Five of those tracks ended up the on just-released EP "A Long Long Time". Listen for the title-track single on Norway P3 Radio. A video will be coming out soon, too.
The archive is being updated. Done. I'm also still waiting for a mailorder shipment of new CDs before I update the playlist. Patience, my friends. I may however have some live mp3s from The Ark coming soon. We shall see...
A new Fireside mp3 for the track "Throw It Away" will be available next Monday from Startracks! The album isn't coming out till April.

Caesars Palace is finally gonna make it over to England, this time with Echoboy. If you remember, their December tour with (International) Noise Conspiracy was cancelled. Anyhow, The Caesars (as they're known outside Sweden) have an EP single for the song "Jerk It Out" coming out February 24, the follow-up to "(I´m Gonna) Kick You Out" which is already out. The album "Love For The Streets" comes out May 19 over there. As I've said before - watch out for this band. I expect big things. The Cardigans will premiere a new song entitled "For What It's Worth" at the upcoming Rockbjörnen Awards on January 27. The show will be broadcasted on Swedish television and will also feature 'comeback' performances from Thomas Rusiak and Dilba along with contemporaries In Flames, Håkan Hellström, The Sounds, Mando Diao and Melody Club.
In Flames will be touring the US beginning in late March. Dates soon.
Be sure to check out 'Rock Over Sweden' today on Rocket 95.3 FM Stockholm. Listen here live or go here for more info. The program starts at 5pm local time. Or maybe not - the show is every other Monday, but it seems like today's scheduled broadcast ain't gonna happen. Next week?
Now scheduled to play the January 18 date of the Inferno Fest in Oslo is a one-off performace by a cover band made up of members from Dimmu Borgir, Red Harvest, The Kovenant, Blood Red Throne, Mayhem, and Susperia. They will reportedly run through various songs from much-respected metal artists such as Death, Black Sabbath, Slayer, and Anthrax and the whole thing is to be recorded for a possible future release on Edgerunner Records. Other bands scheduled to play the fest include Immortal, Children of Bodom and Taake.
I put up a track from Melody Club today. I think they're kinda cheesy, but maybe you'll like 'em. They got that retro 80s thing going on, kinda like The Faint maybe, except without the edge.
I saw that Smirnoff Ice commercial that uses "Kick You Out" from Caesars Palace/The Caesars last night. A quick Google search shows that message boards are already buzzing about the song. Anyhow, you can view it for yourself. (Low bandwidth version here, both require Real Player)
The upcoming album from Enslaved will be called "Below the Lights". It'll include 8 songs and should be out around March. In other news, drummer Dirge Rep has reportedly left the band to concentrate on his project Orcustus, featuring members of Gorgoroth, Borknagar, and Desekrator.

Wondering what your favorite Swedish artists favorite records of the year are? Aftonbladet has the scoop. Some of the queried people are Magnus Carlson (Weeping Willows), Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist (The Hives), Maria Andersson (Sahara Hotnights), Håkan Hellström, Nicolai Dunger and more. (In Swedish, but not hard to figure out)
Check out some videos from Kent, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Håkan Hellström and more at this year end wrap-up article from MTVE.com. There's a couple paragraphs on the success and current state of Scandinavian music towards the end on page two.
The USCB Allstars will be releasing a new album next spring entitled “I Can't Believe It’s Not Music".
To clarify - KVLR's new CD "On Planted Streets" will contain the debut album "Let Me Worry Some More", the follow-up EP "Deadly Dozen" and one unreleased track. All good stuff, so if you don't have those releases already, this is a great way to get it all in one fell swoop.
Cadavar Inc.'s new album will be called "Necrosis". Look for it around springtime on Earache records.
Vintersorg's new album will be called "The Focusing Blur". It comes out sometime next year on Napalm Records. Here's what Vintersorg himself had to say about the music:
"The next album is going to have the format of a concept/theme album, a story running through the albums entirety, and with a musical flow that includes small compositions between the 'real' songs. The music takes off from 'Visions From The Spiral Generator' (the previous record) and twists and turns through a vast genre spectra (as always with Vintersorg). From mellow prog to extreme metal, to ambient and folky vibes, spiced with a lot of effective contrasts, changing directories but united under a solid musical kingdom." (from Blabbermouth)
Some general housekeeping: I updated the About page. Not quite a FAQ, but just some issues I wanted to address.
The Soundtrack of Our Lives just keep racking up accolades from all over the place. Most recently, "Behind the Music" was named Entertainment Weekly's #2 album of the year:
As their name implies, these Swedish rockers are all about distilling the essence of their fave art-rock, psychedelic, folk, and punk bands into a bold, tuneful brew. You'll hear echoes of the Kinks, the Beatles, Love, and Pink Floyd here. But what's really exciting is that Soundtrack may be the first group in ages that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as its idols.
And that's not all! TSOOL also made Empyre Lounge's top 50 at #47:
A Swedish rock group taking the States by storm? No not those Swedes, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives is the second Swedish rock export that put out a killer disc this year. With more pop sense than their Swedish brethren The Hives, TSOOL have put together an impressive display of glam guitars and keyboards, with some psychedelic vibes mixed in.
And yes, The Hives get honored there too, coming in at #17:
Another one of the discs that doesn't really belong here since it is a couple years old but this it he first year the Hives have been in the mainstream. Frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist owes all his moves to Mick Jagger but the music is more like good ole Americans, the Stooges, and the MC5. Just under a half hour, Veni Vidi Vicious is the perfect shot in the ass that music needed this year.
The First Time Records put up a couple mp3s on their website. There isn't much else there as the new site isn't finished (how long has it been in the works guys?), but TFT is the label that put out Kevlar, Cobolt (ex-Refused) and a number of other groups in the States.

Nicolai Dunger will be coming back to the US to play 2 shows at the Sundance Film Fest in Utah on January 17 & 18. After that, it's back to Europe. Dates are here.
Drummer Martin Svensson has left the Satanic Surfers. The band is currently taking a break after a long tour, but will resume work on new material shortly.
If you can, be sure to catch Hederos & Hellberg at one of the duo's final concerts. Their last EP just came out and it's getting great reviews.

Kent won the "Best Nordic Act" prize at the 2002 MTV Europe Music Awards in Barcelona. The other acts nominated for the category were The Hives, Saybia, The Crash and Röyksopp. In a short interview with MTV Europe, Markus Mustonen had this to say when asked if they were pleased to be the best band in Northern Europe:
Yeah, extremely pleased actually because the bands in this category are really, really good. We love Röyksopp and The Hives of course, they´re old friends of ours. We´re really pleased and very, very happy!
Mustonen went on to say that the band currently out on the road and will soon hit Stockholm with support acts The Sounds and Melody Club. Watch or read the rest of the interview here.
The (International) Noise Conspiracy have a "Your Choice Live" album out. More info here.
Misconduct have a new MCD entitled "New Beginning" coming out on their own Side by Side Records. A video is being filmed for the title track and the band promises to post it on their website by the end of the month.
Arch Enemy is postponing the first leg of their upcoming European tour, so now the first show will be at Eindhoven on November 29th. Ticketholders are advised to hold onto their tickets, as the shows will probably still happen in January. A full statement on the matter is expected on Monday.
If you didn't already know about it, Export Music Sweden is sponsoring a show in Paris on December 19th with Weeping Willows, Hederos & Hellberg, and The Sounds. It might be H&H's last show, so check it out if you can.
In even more news about The Sounds, they were invited by the Foo Fighters to open for them in Oslo and Köpenhamn in early December. They also got a write up in Aftonbladet (Swedish only). Gee, think someone's on their way up or what? I suspect we'll continue to hear a lot about this band in the future.
Buddyhead reports that The (International) Noise Conspiracy will be doing their next record under the guidance of American Records guru Rick Rubin. As with anything Buddyhead says, take this news with a large grain of salt. The band will be doing a U.K. tour in December with fellow Swedes Caesars Palace and the band Danko Jones.
Ebbot of TSOOL will be going on the gameshow BumtsiBum on ZTV, Monday November 4th. I think someone from Weeping Willows is supposed to be on, too, but I can't confirm who exactly.
Cadaver Inc. are busy at work on their next album. They promise "The new record is going to be much worse than the first! We're all into old-school Autopsy, Carcass and Inferno, and keeping it brutal and underground." Look for it in 2003 on Earache Records. Maybe they'll do another crafty website, too.
