MP3: The Tarantula Waltz - Two arrows
The Tarantula Waltz may sound like a scary band name, but they really aren't scary at all. A little dark perhaps, but that's about it. If you were expecting Halloween frights, sorry - not gonna happen. The band, the brainchild of Swedish singer/songwriter Markus Svensson, recently completed work on their new album "A waltz" at Roth Händle Studio with producer/engineer Mattias Olsson (Änglagård, Pineforest Crunch, Nanook of the North, etc.) and is looking for a home. If you were blown away by Mattias' work on his own record as Two Times the Trauma like I was, you'll love this. It's just filled with all sorts of clever little details, absolutely begging for the headphone treatment. I've been fortunate enough to offer up this one track to you today, but you can also hear three more at myspace. Now who's gonna put it out?

If we were oceans
Tract Records
Tract Records really knows how to put together a pretty good split and by doing it with four artists they really know how to maximize the releases' potential. It begins with two stellar contributed by Kristofer Åström, who gives two solid tracks (on top of the four he'd already released this year). I had come to the conclusion long ago that this man should be releasing albums whenever he wants, and this gives him the opportunity to. Stylistically, Racingpaperplanes is the perfect segue into the rest of the split, with a beautiful acoustic number right after KÅ's numbers, followed by more fleshed out efforts, but still retaining the soft, somberness. Boy Omega brings all to the table with perhaps the album's most spectacular track in "Fool around". The composition of this song is absolutely gorgeous with its subdued melody, but by contributing four songs, one feels like maybe it's a little heavy ("For I cannot breathe" could have been dropped, mainly for continuity purposes). Two Times The Trauma closes out the session with two rather moody electronic-influenced tracks and an acoustic number in the middle, yet the acoustic track makes the most sense on this album and in my eyes is the far superior of the songs.

New four-way split on Tract Records! Recommended!
It's funny how a vacation can somehow make you more tired than when you left. Maybe it's the cold I seem to have caught or maybe it's the hour-delayed flight or maybe it's the unexpected 4am wake-up call from work. All I know is that I'm beat. But I did promise new music and I'm determined to deliver. Underprepared, but not undeterred. So here's the title track from Two Times the Trauma and their newest album "I fell in love with an ocean". TTtT is essentially the solo project of singer/songwriter Mattias Eriksson, but the invaluable production and instrumental assistance of Mattias Olsson must not go unmentioned. If you're even remotely familiar with any of Olsson's other work, you'll know that he loves vintage keyboards and the whole album is absolutely bathed in them. On this song however, it's the drumming that really get me. So understated, but still quite powerful and perfect for the song. And then when the chorus comes in towards the end, it's just so fitting. Really nice.

Boy Omega will be releasing a 7" on UK-based label Stereo Test Kit featuring the track "By midnight we'll give it a go" b/w "If only" and a new song called "From us to eternity". Look for it in May. Boy Omega will also be featured on three (!!!) upcoming releases on US label Tract Records: the 4-way all-Swedish singer/songwriter split with Kristofer Åström, Racingpaperplanes and Two Times the Trauma "If we were oceans"; the "Engaño" comp and the single-disc reissue of the "I am a cold rock. I am dull grass" Will Oldham tribute. And that's not all! Boy Omega will also be doing a limited tour-only CDR with various rare tracks, cover tunes and outtakes.

Racingpaperplanes, Boy Omega, Two Times The Trauma and Kristofer Åström will be contributing material to a four-way all-Swedish singer/songwriter split CD to be released via US label Tract Records. The disc will be called ""If we were oceans" and each act will have 2-3 songs. Expect a Valentine's Day release.
IAT.MP3 recording artist The Grand Opening (download EP here) reports that they are currently recording their debut album at Roth Händle studio in Stockholm with producer/engineer Mattias Olsson (Pineforest Crunch, Vijaya, Two Times The Trauma). In other news, the band's old CDR releases will be reissued by TGO mainman Roger Olsson's new CDR label Suitcase Music alongside new releases from Yamon Yamon and Will Gambola Sing. And lastly, TGO plans to tour Germany the second half of February 2006. If you are interested in booking them, contact norrlands-booking@gmx.de.
