Danish acts Efterklang and Turboweekend did a remix swap and the results are now posted for free download: http://efterklang.net/home/2010/06/04/efterkang-turboweekend-remix-swap/
Generally speaking I don't usually care about these sorts of things, but the results actually came out quite well.
No doubt hoping to capitalize on the recent Tiësto remix of "Trouble is", Danish act Turboweekend will be rereleasing their excellent "Ghost of a chance" album in a special 2CD edition featuring said remix added as a bonus track along with "De brikker der aldrig faldt på plads", a Danish-language duet with Steffen Brandt, a few other remixes and some live tracks from the band's show at Vega last April. The official release date for the new disc is June 7.
Turboweekend, CALLmeKAT, Marie Fisker, Jonna Lee, Oh No Ono, Kaspar, Murmansk and Adam Tensta are among the latest confirmations for SXSW.

As I hinted at in my review, one of Turboweekend's strongest assets is their ability to take their songs into strange, unreal dimensions. On tracks like "Sweet Jezebel" it's subtle, but it's there: "I saw the rush hour stop for you / It didn't seem like it was new to you / My eyes touched your skin like dust and grime" I can see it play out in my mind; time stops when their eyes meet, but only for a moment. The sort of experience that later causes you to question if it was real. Furthermore: "In my dream I heard the word from you / Telling me exactly what to do / For you to turn back the clockworks of your mind" The spell is more than mere symbolism. The music is similarly evocative -- slow and languid, with a steady pulse and keening synths. As with everything they do, the sound is surprisingly minimal as well. Instrumentation is sparse, but thick with atmosphere which fills the gaps between the synth/bass/drums/vocals arrangement. Listen to how they twist the melody towards the end, too. The vocals soar with the final, climatic chorus, but the harmonies moves in unexpected ways. It's a thing of subtle beauty.

Perhaps this is the sound Weeping Willows were going for when they switched gears to make "Into the light": dark, modern disco with a touch of the sublime. The difference is however, Turboweekend is a trio so their sound is far more pared down, sleek and sexy. It also has the clinical deliberateness of Talk Talk or Peter Gabriel; clean, concise and expertly arranged. Like a complicated recipe where you can still taste every spice, every instrument retains its own separate space, but is perfectly balanced against each other to raise the whole. Even better, the lyrical content is informed by much more than standard-grade Scandinavian romantic melancholy. Yes, there's plenty of love and loss, but songs like "Holiday" for instance give working for a weekend an apocalyptic dimension and others such as "Sweet Jezebel" and "Up with the smoke - Down with the ash" touch on the supernatural. The mood is consistently somber and fully engaged; not something I normally expect from an act that could be mistakenly construed to be "merely" dancefloor fodder. Whether heard on headphones or in the club, the experience is just as good.
