I don't normally post Swedish-only tourdates, but I have to make an exception since two of my favorite reclusive bands, Trapdoor Fucking Exit and The End Will Be Kicks, are teaming up for a few shows:

03/30 - Klubb Stilett, Gävle (TFE only)
04/05 - Färjan, Luleå
04/06 - Mullberget, Skellefteå
04/07 - Scharinska, Umeå

TFE is also working on finally doing a few UK dates around mid-June, but nothing's been confirmed yet.

Looks like Daniel Fagerstroem (ex-Trapdoor Fucking Exit, Chronic Heist, The Je Ne Sais Quoi) has been made a member of Swedish all-star noise collective The Skull Defekts.

MP3: Chronic Heist - Gather little tricks

What happens to punks when they get old? Prevailing wisdom seems to indicate that they become country singer/songwriters. At least that seems to work for the first generation. But what about those of us who a bit younger and grew up on stuff like Dischord? Where do we go next? Maybe they decide to push further out into the unknown. That seems to be the case with Chronic Heist. Veterans of acts like JR Ewing and Trapdoor Fucking Exit, but you'd never know it from cursory listening. They call it "suburban gothic" and I think that's fairly apt. You can certainly hear the roots of Nick Cave in their reliance on piano and dramatic vocals. It's not quite as sinister as Paper Chase, but I'd call them kindred spirits. Something for grownups who have gotten over the aggression of hardcore. I am not as angry as I was when I was a teenager, so why should I keep listening to angry music?

Looks like Dial Booking totally dropped the ball and fucked over Trapdoor Fucking Exit and their planned European tour: http://www.trapdoorfuckingexit.com/main.html

After what seemed like an eternity of downtime, the Trapdoor Fucking Exit website is back online with a new design: http://www.trapdoorfuckingexit.com/
In other news, look for the guys to do a quick European tour at the end of August. Check myspace or the Dial Booking website for the latest.

Trapdoor Fucking Exit
Crooked life/Straight world
No Idea

Trapdoor Fucking Exit was one of those bands I've only read about and never gave their music a listen. With comparisons ranging from Black Flag to San Diego's Drive Like Jehu, the Swedish quartet follow up their well-received 2004 debut "Be not content" with ten tracks of driving hardcore/punk. The guitars sound great and keep things interesting as the drums beat on like a healthy heart. The songs are pretty long (some hovering around four-plus minutes) with breakdowns to keep you interested. My only complaint was that the track sequencing could have a been a bit better: the first four are great but after "Cardiac arrest," I found myself losing interest.

There's so much good music coming out right now, I don't even have time to listen to it all. Sad, right? I feel sorry for me too. One of the latest additions to my collection is the new album "Crooked life/Straight world" from Swedish hardcore act Trapdoor Fucking Exit. I know I've posted stuff from these guys before on numerous occasions (and even had an exclusive first-listen to the song "Ride your pig" from this new album), but I still don't feel like they're getting the attention they deserve. The sound of the new record is unmistakably TFE. Less bluesy than the last album "Be not content", but with way more intricate riffs and longer, more developed songs. I think it results in a way more satisfying listen, especially in terms of the album as a whole. Listen for yourself, you'll see. Now howabout a US tour?

I still haven't managed to get myself a copy of the new record yet, but I've been listening to "Be not content" a lot to try and make up for it.

Trapdoor Fucking Exit has finally decided to give their website it's annual update now that the new album "Crooked life/Straight world" is finally out: http://www.trapdoorfuckingexit.com/
The band will play a record release show at Garaget in Stockholm on February 10.

Good to see it's finally coming out at the end of the month.

The new Trapdoor Fucking Exit album "Crooked life, straight world" finally has a release date - only a few months late this time. It'll be out in Sweden on January 9, the US on January 13 and the UK on January 24. Samples available at the band's website: http://www.trapdoorfuckingexit.com/

Good news/Bad news. First, the good: Trapdoor Fucking Exit has posted the cover art and tracklist for their new upcoming album in their myspace blog: http://www.myspace.com/trapdoorfuckingexit
The bad news? The album has been delayed to November. Hopefully we won't see a repeat of last time when the new record was delayed for over a year.
