Hello everyone, it's December 1 so that means it's time once again for our annual top 10 blowout. As with year's past, we'll be publishing a new guest list from a different contributor each and every day all the way until New Year's. Up first: Thomas Denver Jonsson
I don't have the entire month booked quite yet, so if you feel up to contributing your own list, get in touch!

Top 10s for 2008: Thomas Denver Jonsson

The new Björn Kleinhenz/Thomas Denver Jonsson EP "Swim, swam, swan" will be released as a 3" CD in the very near future. Oh, and keep an eye out for a free download version as well.

Thomas Denver Jonsson and Björn Kleinhenz have decided to resurrect their folk duo The Topeka Twins and have recorded four brand new tracks, their first new material since the debut 7" EP from 2003. As to how and when it will be released, I will keep you posted.

MP3: The Rabbit Theory - Krokås

Björn Kleinhenz - Quietly happy and deep inside - Covers and remixes

Hopefully you already took the initiative to download all of the tracks from Björn Kleinhenz's excellent covers and remix countdown, but just in case, we've got all of the tracks re-posted here as a netrelease. Who cares that we're still a week away from the Swedish release of his new album "Quietly happy and deep inside"? Download these tracks and pretend you already know the record! Of course, I aim to stupefy, which is why I've posted the one track that's probably the most different from the original. Obviously, that Anders Teglund remix I posted is also distinctly not Björn, but you can still hear fragments of his voice. On the other hand, Switzerland's The Rabbit Theory take the song "Krokås" and totally mess it up, turning it into an emo post-punk workout. It's all jagged rhythms and hoarse vocals, yet you do get a huge finale to round this up at the end. I know, not a Scandinavian band, but rules are made to be broken. Sometimes. Download "Krokås" below and then head to my netlabel page to snag the rest.

Also, don't forget my interview with Björn's friend and fellow singer/songwriter Thomas Denver Jonsson discussing his contribution: [click here]

MP3: Thomas Denver Jonsson - The light of love

It's Wednesday so that means it's time again for more Björn Kleinhenz cover tunes as we count down to the release of his new album "Quietly happy and deep inside". Seeing as how one of this week's featured artists is Thomas Denver Jonsson, an artist I'm frequently in contact with, I figured I'd track him down for a short Q&A session:

How did you get involved with the cover project? Have you known Björn for awhile or what?

Me and Björn must've known each other since 2001 when we started to appear on the same compilations and was reviewed in the same magazines. We also had a band, The Topeka Twins and we released a record 2003 [how soon I forget! -ed.]. We quitted the duo though since we looked too much like a Swedish version of Simon & Garfunkel. The situation was unbearable. Both wanted to be Art.

Did you get to pick the song or was it assigned to you? How did you approach doing your own version?

Björn handpicked "The light of love" for me, he said 'cause it was a country song. I wanted to take away the country pop element and do something more introspective with it. I was very cautious to not listen to the original version while starting to work with the song and recording it.

So how do you think it turned out? Were successful in what you set out to accomplish?

Yeah, I'm quite happy about it and it was fun dubbing the vocals. I had a nice evening doing it.

Have you heard any of the other contributions to the project? Any favorites?

I've only heard what has been revealed and I think all have been fantastic this far. Love Susanna's [Susanna Brandin aka Winter Took His Life -ed.] choir arrangement of "At night we die". It's a great tribute to one of Sweden's best pop artists.
