Sorry, but there's little I can do about it and I have to at least cover costs. In somewhat related news, I just added a whole bunch of new discs to the webstore including titles from Britta Persson, Ane Brun, The Plan and more! Check it out!

MP3: The Plan - Walk for gold

I was going to post something completely different today, but the good folks as Razzia had to ruin my plans by sending me The Plan's new single "Walk for gold". Bummer, huh? Some history: The Plan was started by ex-Broder Daniel bassist Theodor Jensen back around 2001 and have released two previous albums, "The plan" in 2001 and "Embrace me beauty" in 2004. Common consensus says the records are merely so-so, the first one being the better of the two, but the singles ("Mon amour", "Let's leave", etc.) have all been great. So does "Walk for gold" hold up? Well, it's less of a direct Stokes rip, so that's good. I also appreciate the faster tempo. The best thing about though has to be the end when the vocal chorus comes in after the noisy solo sounding like something out of a Morricone soundtrack. After that I can't help but think of the Prospector on "The Simpsons" who shoots his guns in the air and exclaims "Gold!" Now, I can't be sure that's what Theodor was going for, but I like it.

The Plan - Walk for gold

You can finally hear some new stuff from The Plan now on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/theplansweden
The single "Walk for gold" comes out September 27 and the album of the same name follows on October 25.

The Plan is on-track to release their new album in October. The first single "Walk for gold" will be out in September.

Razzia is working hard to corner the market on ex-Broder Daniel bassists and has now signed Theodor Jensen's band The Plan. The band will record their third album this summer with producer Jari Haapalainen (The Bear Quartet) and will be releasing the first single "Walk for gold" in late August.

Silverbullit bassist Jukka will be collaborating with Gustav Nygren and Niklas Korssell (The Plan) on the music for a dance performance project called Apart happening at Kulturhuset in Stockholm on May 3-7. The choreography is by Helena Franzén and you can preview three tracks at Silverbullit's website: http://www.silverbullit.se/ (see 'Lyssna här' under the pic)

Consequences will be entering the studio on November 21 with producer Ronald Bood (The Plan, Mando Diao, Shout out Louds) to begin work on their debut album "What have I done to deserve this?". Look for it to come out next year.

Once again I'm gonna turn over the reins to Simon Tagestam for this week's Friday pick. Take it Simon:

I'm an album man, I'm not into compilations or singles. When I check out a band that has been around for a while I rather get one of their albums than a best of compilation. Nothing too crazy about that, huh? And since I work five days a week, I like to listen to new albums when I get the time, not the radio or some crazy mp3 mix (although there's a time and place for those as well). So what about those excellent singles that feature on crappy albums? Well, I never got time for them, which is a shame. A band that made one of these songs that I never listen to, but when I do my heart melts is The Plan which is the side project of Theodore Jensen who normally plays bass in Swedish indie darlings Broder Daniel (he, at the end of 2003, left Broder Daniel to concentrate fully on The Plan, although he has now returned). The Plan's self titled debut album (from 2001) is a nice little affair (their second album is a botched affair), with a few good songs on it, but most of them are overshadowed by the monster hit "Mon amour". But ignore "Mon amour" for the moment, and allow me to be bit snobbish and point out the brilliance of the acoustic version of the song "Stay right here", which I believe is a b-side. The original version is fine, but it got too much of a tropicana vibe, and whereas the acoustic version is dark and haunting the album version takes the first lines "The sun it shines. I've been drinking all day" and conjures images of pina coladas at the beach, rather than uselessness and despair, which is of course to prefer. Now, this is a very sad song, but more in "screw-you-I'm-alone-and-strong-and-depressed-but-I'm-fine"-sort of way. Now listen to the pretty song, please.
