Taken By Trees aka ex-Concrete Victoria Bergsman has cancelled out of her own record release show, scheduled for June 18 at the Spitz in London. Is it nerves? Rumour has it that she is a reluctant live performer. Scout Niblett will take her place as the headlining act and it appears that Tough Alliance member Eric Berglund has bowed out of DJ duties as well.

London-based mag Plan B will host the Taken By Trees record release show at The Spitz on June 18. As mentioned before, Taken By Trees is the new solo act of ex-Concrete Victoria Bergsman and her debut album "Open field" will be released that same day via Rough Trade. As a side note, Eric Berglund from The Tough Alliance will be one of the guest DJs at the gig as well.

Taken By Trees, the solo project of ex-Concretes frontwoman Victoria Bergsman, will release her debut album "Open field" on June 18. Look for samples online soon.

Maybe you saw the aside in this PB&J live review, but if not: Taken By Trees, the solo project of ex-Concretes frontwoman Victoria Bergsman, has signed to Rough Trade and will begin recorded her debut album in March.

The thing about Taken By Trees is, if you liked The Concretes, you'll like this; and if you didn't, then you won't. Ms. Bergsman hasn't been taking voice lessons at all (which is obvious from "In colour" and now these demos), and she's not treading new ground at all; a new audience won't be gained other than devout fans. "Lost and found" could have easily been an extra from "In colour," which is evident by its unfinished feel. I guess she just wanted to take back the twee and all of these tracks are quite sparse - which is good, and brief - which is better. All in all, demos are just ideas, but with someone who's been writing songs for a better part of the past decade, you'd expect something to awe you, something to make you believe she quit her previous band because she was being held back creatively, but this just doesn't come close to any of that.
