The new Masshysteri is the consensus release of spring among my circle of friends. The first album was pretty great, but this new self-titled release easily tops it by being way catchier than anything they've ever done before. Almost every single vocal line is sung in harmony and when they're not, there's usually a fantastic single-note guitar lead to take over. And sometimes, like on the chorus of "Dom kan inte höra musiken" ("They can't hear music"), you get both at once. Killer subtle guitar/sax solo too; blink and you'll miss it. I'm not sure when the domestic version on Feral Ward will be officially released, but it's on the top of my want-list for sure.

I got hooked up with promo mp3s yesterday (tack Jonas!) and listened to it three times -- it's a seriously great album. Very highly recommended!

Masshysteri cancel US tour

Masshysteri have cancelled their upcoming US tour plans in May, but say they will be back later this year. Wait and see...

Ny Våg to release comp på Svenska, more

Umeå-based punk label Ny Våg is putting out a comp in early February entitled "Umeå vråljazz giganter" featuring Swedish-language cuts from almost all of their bands: The Most, Invasionen, UX Vileheads, Bombettes, Kommunen, Regulations, Dom Döda, Masshysteri, Knugen Faller, AC4, Brottsvåg and Tristess. No exact release date, but they say it'll be available in the first week of February. Also on the way from the label are new LPs from both Invasionen and Masshysteri, the first due in late February or March, the latter set for March.
