Westkust - Touch

This here is Westkust's brand new single "Touch", officially out on June 20 via . A bit more straight-up indiepop/C86-sounding than their great labelmates Makthaverskan, but still possessing a strong postpunk undercurrent. Definitely check this out and keep a lookout for the band's debut EP "Junk" which will be released on July 9.

Iberia - A finale

Iberia = Alexander Palmestål from Pool/Pistol Disco + Maja Mathe Milner of Makthaverskan. Nice!

Luxury: new website, new releases

Swedish label has a new website and a whole host of new releases on the way -- First up is the Makthaverskan 7" "Antabus" on May 13 which comes packaged with a totebag and is limited to a mere 120 copies and contains tracks that "will never be released anywhere else." Wish it wasn't 20 EUR, but I guess that's what I get for living in the wrong part of the world. Luxury also has the self-titled debut 12" from new signing Katakomb coming on May 11 as well as a digital single from new act Hagaliden on May 6, plus a new 10" EP from My Darling YOU! (also May 13) and then in June, an LP from Palpitation. Read more: http://luxxury.se/

Makthaverskan - Know love (video)

I didn't get around to hearing Makthaverskan's excellent self-titled album until way after its release, otherwise it would have easily made my Best of 2009 list. Good to see they're not giving up on it though, despite its criminally underwhelming reception -- perhaps the current goth zeitgeist will serve them better. Anyhow, here's a brand new video for the track "Know love" and it's great, though, uh, a bit NSFW. Direct link: http://vimeo.com/18879071

MP3: Makthaverskan - German boy

It too me an embarrassingly long amount of time to figure out that Makthaverskan were singing the title of the song as the chorus with a soft Swedish 'G', but I suppose that's all a matter of expectations and perspective. It's still a good song regardless, as I tend to find those sorts of naive foibles more endearing than not. Likewise, it also reinforces how close they are to early Broder Daniel, back when BD were anxious misfit teens as opposed to the elegant misanthropes they eventually grew into. Not that I expect or even desire a similar evolution for Makthaverskan; I'm fine with the status quo teen angst they've got going right now.

MP3: Makthaverskan - Vi var människor från början

As we count down the days until Halloween, it's only appropriate that I provide you with some music that befits the season. All you really need to know: Makthaverskan = GBG dödspop. Beyond that, here's the scoop: "Vi var människor från början" is the lead single from their forthcoming self-titled debut on Luxury and it's a harrowing death-rock ripper. "1-2-3-4! I declare war!" 'Nuff said.
