Speaker Bite Me members declare We Can Love You

Signe Høirup Wille-Jørgensen (aka Jomi Massage) and Martin Ryum of Danish act Speaker Bite Me have started a new band project called We Can Love You which includes fellow Jomi Massage backing member Luke Sutherland. The trio will make their live debut on May 21 at Plex in Copenhagen.

Jomi Massage to perform in stage musical

It's not quite the same level as Ola Salo doing "Jesus Christ Superstar", but Danish artist Jomi Massage will be performing a starring role in the musical "Bag 7 Døre" being put on by the theater group Kaleidoskop. Read more (in Danish) at Gaffa: http://gaffa.dk/nyhed/31008

Danish indie Morningside Records has posted a massive news update on all of their various bands, including details about new Under Byen and Jomi Massage releases and more: http://morningsiderecords.dk/?p=128

Jomi Massage has rerecorded her 2005 album "From where no one belongs, I will sing..." with composer Eblis Alvarez and the ensemble Zoom and will hopefully see it released sometime around mid-November. That's not all, she's also recorded a soundtrack for the short children's film "Frederikke" by director Heidi Marie Faisst. No word on a release for that, but I'll keep you posted.

Danish indie Morningside Records has posted a big news update with stuff on Jomi Massage, Oh No Ono, Oceano da Cruz and more: http://www.morningsiderecords.dk/

Jomi Massage
From where no one belongs, I will sing
Morningside Records

Jomi Massage transports you to the type of place that I like: a dark, claustrophobic, yet beautiful landscape. It is like stepping into a Tim Burton movie where he finally decided to wise up and let go of Danny Elfman. The range of emotion displayed is just as wide as film scores tend to be and goes from the sadly melancholic to happy-pissed off to depressingly lovelorn. The closest thing I could compare this to is the most depressing PJ Harvey records, but Jomi Massage also has a rock side that is sprinkled throughout the record. The music uses every instrumentation technique in the book, from a capella to straight rock to minimalist electronics. This is a very good record and effective, if a little too overproduced in parts, but certainly the type of record that I find pleasing to my ears.

Danish indie label Morningside Records has announced the signing of Speaker Bite Me, the full-band project of fellow Morningsider Signe Høirup Wille-Jørgensen aka Jomi Massage. Read more about them here: http://www.morningsiderecords.dk/bandbios/speakerbiteme.asp

I'm not sure what my problem is, but I've only just recently started to really dig into the Morningside Records catalogue. I've known about the label for awhile now, but never bothered getting a hold of any of their releases until Figurines started to get international attention. Lame, I know. However, I'm not going to talk about Figurines today (I'll wait until after I see them in Seattle next week). The Morningside artist that has impressed me the most so far is Jomi Massage, so that's who I'm posting an mp3 from today. The most obvious point of reference for JM is "Dry"-era PJ Harvey. You know the sound: caterwauling vocals and noisy, lurching rock interspersed with quieter, more tender moments. But JM trumps PJ by incorporating a much diverse and layered melodic sensibility. I like older PJ stuff a lot, but there's something more interesting going on here that's also, most importantly, much more consistent. This particular track that I've posted today starts off with a droning melody and then explodes into a fireball of white noise which keeps burning furiously until a sudden stop at the end. It's a total cliffhanger of a song, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
