New mp3 today from Tape from their third album "Rideau", out next week on Häpna. As Jens Lekman says in his recent interview with PopMatters, "the most exciting stuff is happening on the Häpna label" and I'm inclined to agree. Surely you've heard some of the hype on now-departed organ/drum duo Sagor & Swing, but there's much more to be discovered. I find myself listening to a lot of droning ambient music these days now that I'm working from home and can listen to my choice of music without fear of annoying coworkers. However, I still have to worry about annoying my wife, so compromises must be made! This is the stuff that we can wholeheartedly agree on: it's inobstrusive enough that you can work without distractions, but not so much so that you can't enjoy it. And we all know that noise/drone is the new black, right? Get with it! I especially love this track for the buzz of the shakers - it reminds me of cicadas and summertime.

I don't know anything about Juni Järvi, but I suspect he's heard a bit of Jens Lekman. Not that I mind, Juni Järvi's managed to pen some rather cosy little songs on this cd-r release. I shouldn't write him off as some Lekman copycat though, so let's say he's a mix between Jens Lekman and Adam Green, with a bit of Ballboy thrown in the soup. It also sounds pretty impressive for being a cd-r release, with all sorts of instruments in the mix. I suspect Juni's an Aries, and I think there's great success for him to be had in the future of indiepop.

Jens Lekman reports that he recorded a new DVD-EP this past weekend around Kullaberg, an inactive volcano and wildlife sanctuary on Sweden's southwestern coast. Songs recorded include "Your arms around me", "The rain has got to fall", and "Happy birthday to shame" along with covers of "O Caroline" by Matching Mole and "A little lost" by Arthur Russels. All material was recorded live and Sarah from El Perro Del Mar helped out with some vocals on a few songs. As to how/when this will be released, that's still undecided.
Jens Lekman will be playing the 'B yr own boss' Plan B Magazine-sponsored fest at Mono in Glasgow on August 28. See the flyer: http://www.planbmag.com/glasgow/
