Reviews: Roles and rules (mp3)
Regular updates will return on Wednesday. There better be video footage from the Final Exit reunion online by then.
The Final Exit complete discography retrospective collection "Det engentliga Västerbotten - Komplett diskografi 94-97" will be released on April 2, just a few days after they play a reunion gig at Umeå Open. David Sandström's label Mofab Teg will handle the CD and Wasted Sounds will do the vinyl.
Wasted Sounds will be reissuing Final Exit's discography on vinyl. The legendary Umeå-based straight-edge band included both Dennis Lyxzen and David Sandström pre-Refused and will be performing a one-off reunion show at this year's Umeå Open. In other Wasted Sounds news, the label will be sending off new LPs from Knugen Faller, Blinds and Asta Kask to get pressed in the next week or so. For preorder info and tons of tourdates for all Wasted Sounds-affiliated acts, go to their website: http://www.wastedsounds.com/

MP3: Final Exit - Roles and rules
It's Friday and I'm off work for the extended holiday weekend and I've got my brother and sister-in-law visiting, so no news update today. However, I still have a classic track for you today, courtesy of contributor Jonas Appelqvist. Timely too, considering the recent Straight Edge Terror Force strike on the Systembolaget in Umeå.
When I first heard Final Exit back in '95 on their first full-length "Teg" I was blown away. Not only because of the uncompromising hardcore they delivered, the rumour also had it that David Sandström and Dennis Lyxzén were members of the up-til-then secret band (something that proved to be true). With titles such as "True til maturity", "Straight edge terror force", "The beginning" and "Wife and kids and television grave" they pushed the boundaries and really set the records straight(!). I got to see them once on their "We are splitting up and you don't care"-tour and it is still the best gig I've ever been to. Truly brilliant! The mp3-post featured here is taken from the second album called "Umeå". Ladies and gents: sit back and enjoy!
If any members of said sXe Terror Force are interested in talking to the press, er uh me, I encourage you to get in touch.

The band is actually supposed to be Final Exit, the group that David Sandström and Dennis Lyxzén were in before founding Refused.
Of all the post-Refused bands, I like David Sandström's stuff the best. He made one brilliant Scandinavian folk-inspired album ("Om det inte händer nåt innan i morgon så kommer jag") and then reinvented himself as a singer/songwriter. Quite a distance from his beginnings as Final Exit's frontman, eh? His latest album "Go down" almost made it into my top 10 for the year, but I listened to it too much and burnt myself out. It's still a great record, we just need some time apart y'know? Today's track is David's take on Stina Nordenstam's lead single from her last record "The world is saved". It's interesting to note how well the song works in a rock context - even with all of Stina's pop artifice stripped away, you still have a great song.

Got an old track for you today from Umeå's hardcore legends Final Exit. This was the band that David Sandström and Dennis Lyxzén were in before Refused. When I was at Umeå Open the other week, my friend Magnus and I were fantasizing about how awesome it would be if these dudes were the secret band. If they were, they'd just have to open with this set of tunes, the intro and lead track from their landmark album "Umeå". I may not go to as many hardcore shows as I used to, but there's no way I could stay out of the pit with a band like this on stage. That scream is just so brutal and that first riff is so heavy. So crucial! Most it up!
