Coming soon via When Skies Are Grey, the label run by Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words: "Undergången - An Audio Companion To The End-tymes", a 120-minute cassette comp of international darkwave/noise artists including contributions from Swedes such as Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words, Jean-Louis Huhta, The Skull Defekts, Adolf Filter and lots more. Copies are not available to order yet, but I'll definitely be grabbing a few for resale. Hit up the Dead Letters tumblr for samples: http://dreadwords.tumblr.com/
Kalligrammofon has reissued Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words' 2005 "Sally Hill EP" in a special limited edition of 50 copies: http://www.kalligrammofon.com/main.php?artist=9
Swedish experimental/electronic act Fontän has a track review (and free download link) at Pitchfork: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/11463-neanderthaler/
Not sure where they're getting their info though, as "Winterhwila" will be their 2nd album. The 2006 debut "Aktionskammarn" is excellent. Also, is it just me or does the artwork look a lot like Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words' "Fall, fall, falling"?
In other Pfork related items, their love affair with Sincerely Yours continues with a track from Avner in the Forkcast and a review of the new Sally Shapiro album "My guilty pleasure". I'm surprised more people aren't aware that "Dying in Africa" is a Nicolas Makelberge cover, but then again, I suppose that most people aren't aware of Makelberge period. My memory is as long as this site's archive, at least.
Tsukimono, aka Johan Gustavsson (Scraps of Tape, Thee Gutted String, etc.), has posted tracks from his latest release "Heart attack money" up on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/tsukimonoswe
Said album is out now via Kalligrammofon. In other related news, Johan tells me that he's working on a split with Dwayne Sodahberk that's just about done and will be released via Stuporsonika later this year. Naturally, I'll give you a heads-up when it's ready. But that's not all! Restless soul that he is, Johan is also working on a new project together with Jasper TX as well as the dark drone act Crowned With Horns, featuring members from Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words and Dead Vows. Definitely looking forward to hearing both of those...

Also note that US label Killer Pimp will be doing a CD release of the magnificent "Lost in reflections" album this coming March.
Orchestra Senza Testa is a huge change of pace for Jonas Rosén considering his early work with noise terrorists Asterisk* and The Female Anchor of Sade. The darkness remains, but the violence? All but gone. "L'elefante rosso" is the second track from his new album "Fabula", but you might as well start anywhere since each fragment is an equal piece of the whole. Strings and other organic elements come and go, though the crackle and buzz remain constant. Melodies exist, but they are transient. Like labelmates Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words, the focus is on atmosphere and feeling and the music's ability to suck you in, to capture your full attention. While it would appear that this could work effectively as ambient background music, it can be deceiving in its allure and ability to startle. As with all of my favorite drone, this is uneasy listening.

Download this track and load it into your mp3 player. Put it on and take a walk downtown. Watch as the color drains from the scenery, as the faces around you dissolve into emptiness. Watch as every movement, even the most benign, takes on new, sinister connotations. Eventually, the paranoia will give way and then you will be left with nothingness. A blank slate; a total loss.

New in stock from Fang Bomb:
Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words - Lost in reflections (LP+7")
Various Artists - Sub Gothenburg (CS)
DLSODW is, unsurprisingly, a late-entry contender for my year-end top 10. As for the "Sub Gothenburg" cassette, well, I should hope my enthusiasm for all things Gbg is obvious by now. If you want exciting new music, these releases are a good place to start.
