MP3: Assid - Habibi

I've recently been listening to this track a lot, in kind of a roundabout sort of way. The story: my wife and I go to the gym every morning (well, at least I do, her schedule is more, um, intermittent) and she requested my help with putting together some good workout tunes for her mp3 player. Of course I'm content with a healthy mix of brutal death metal and hardcore punk, but that just won't do -- she wants something melodic, so I oblige myself to pick out a few choice selections from my collection, most of which she is unfamiliar with. The criteria: match the BPM of High Hats' "The end", a track she knows and loves (as should everyone). So yeah, "The end" clocks at 155bpm, so I scan my files for appropriate tunes to match... Laakso and The Hives seem to fit the bill pretty well, but I know that few things are better than a pounding techno beat and "Habibi" is a solid 156 according to my calculator. Perfect! Now I just have to contend with her shrilly shouting "Don't!" at me every time I do something she doesn't like. Which is surprisingly often.

The new Firefox AK single "Winter rose" (ft. Tiger Lou) is now officially confirmed for release on January 30. As mentioned before, it will feature remixes from Özgur Can, Tellevika, Assid and Jimmy O. There's also a video on the way from director Robinowich.

The first single from the new Firefox AK album "If I were a melody" will be "Winter rose". It features a guest appearance from husband Tiger Lou/Rasmus Kellerman and will include b-side remixes from Özgur Can, Tellevika, Assid and Jimmy O. Look for it in mid-January. As for the album itself, it's still due out on February 20.

Swedish indie/techno act ASSID has signed with K-Werks and is working on an album for release in early 2008.

Soviac's new single "I got the ribbah" will be out on April 2 and will include remixes from Assid and Buset. A new album will follow on April 18.

Swedish electropop act Assid will finally officially release their debut single "Habibi" (as covered by Firefox AK on her latest album) tomorrow/April 19 via Kleen Records.

New mp3 today from Firefox AK off her new album "Madame, madame!". For those of you who have never heard her before, you might recognize her from her duet with Hello Saferide on "Long lost penpal". Or maybe you know her as the wife of Rasmus Kellerman aka Tiger Lou. But I think that's all about to change because this record proves that she can stand just fine on her own. The "What's that sound" EP showed potential, but as American Idol's Randy Jackson would say, this time she really brought it. The songs, the sounds, the vocals - everything is stepped up. This particular track is actually a cover of a song by Assid, one of the many promising young Swedish acts doing new things with old house beats. Good stuff and, as always, if you like it you should buy it. Preorder before March 1 and save a buck - the price goes up on the release date.

Firefox AK - Habibi

Phaser has announced that Assid's debut single "Habibi" will finally be released in February. We'll see if the recent hype of other Swedish indie Europop acts pays off for these guys as well. It's also interesting to note that Firefox AK performs her own version of the song on her upcoming full-length, due out March 1 via Razzia Records.

Swedish post-punks The Je Ne Sais Quoi played an extra-special show at Debaser in Stockholm on June 18 with all sorts of special guests appearing on every song, including scene luminaries such as Ed Greene, Andreas Söderström, Knife and Ape, John (Bad Monkey), ASSID, Kate Riff (Soviac) and their sixth member Gabriel. Why am I telling you about this? Well, because they recorded the entire show on video and are offering it as a free download via bittorrent.
