New mp3 today from Andreas Meland off the split CD "Brakhage" with Norwegian noise heavyweight Lasse Marhaug (aka Jazkammer). The music was recorded live during a screening of American filmmaker Stan Brakhage's silent films and then remixed and finalized for this release. Meland was still considered somewhat of an unproven talent at the time of the record's release back in April '05, but I think you'll agree that he proves himself to be a formidable artist with the sweet, dark drones he lays down here. This music isn't so much about how it sounds, but about how it makes you feel and the way it affects the mood of your surroundings. In other words, perfect soundtrack music. [buy it]

Andreas Meland - Dog star man III

New mp3 today from Andreas Meland, a rising star of the Norwegian experimental music scene. This featured cut is the title track "Deaf leoppard" from his new 3" CD that I'm now carrying in the mailorder. Like a lot of good minimalist music, you don't really notice it when you first put it on, but then it builds and builds and all of the sudden the whole room seems to be throbbing. Maybe you aren't into music that provokes such a physical effect, but I love it. Let it embrace and envelop you. Love it back.

Norway's Enlightenment will be releasing the final post-humous Angora Static album. Also coming up this fall is an EP from Sun State, aka the laptop/guitar duo of Jon Eriksen and Lars Myrvoll. In other news, the label just released the latest edition of their 3" CD series with a disc from Norwegian experimental artist Andreas Meland (from Düplo, Sort Mel and Bokfink) entitled "Deaf leoppard". The record includes four tracks from a remix from Phonophani. More info and ordering info: http://www.enlightenment.no/
