Easily a highlight of the P3 Guld live experience though neither the official album version nor the TV mix compare with the how it felt and sounded in-person. I'm pretty excited to hear the rest of the record now, though I'm also kinda tempted to give them a bad review in hopes in makes them even more pissed off/more awesome. Look for a fresh interview with the band to appear here soon, but not too soon as I've only just begun to dig myself out of the pile of work left for me after taking two days off.
All this talk of P3 Guld and I never even listed the winners! Here they are:
Best artist: Robyn - "Body talk pt. 1"
Guldmicken (best live artist): Robyn
Best song: "Dancing on my own" - Robyn
Best group: Johnossi - "mavericks"
Best newcomer: Tove Styrke
Best dance: Skudge - Various productions
Best hip-hop/soul: Carlito - "Guldburen"
Best pop: This is Head - "0001"
Best rock/metal: Khoma - "A final storm"
Back home again after my whirlwind journey to Göteborg and back with lots to say and many interviews to transcribe, but first I must trudge through my dayjob's massive to-do list that built up in my absence. Expect regular updates to resume shortly/slowly, not immediately.
Hard to form coherent thoughts on such little sleep, but I can say with full certainty that I had a blast at P3 Guld. Expect a thorough writeup in days to come; in the meantime, I am just about to start the long journey home. Thanks again to Sveriges Radio for bringing me over, thanks to all my friends both old and new, so glad I could be here. Until next time!
Things I've learned today: Peter Dolving will talk politics for hours, Jonas Björler says The Haunted is gay, Those Dancing Days have earned your respect, Tove Styrke's signature dish is pannacotta. Also: Björn Kleinhenz is working on an acoustic album, young panda girls with Broder Daniel patches still exist and Swedish beer is getting much, much better.
I first became aware of Dark Times when I saw that they were supporting local-to-me act Gun Outfit in Oslo awhile back. That, in combination with their affiliation, ensured them a spot on my to-listen list. Actually, the latter would've been reason enough as Norway's current underground scene is simply ruling right now, but the Gun Outfit matchup is an interesting note because it implied a divergence from the Black Hole Crew's typically raw and brutal sound. Suspicions proved correct on listening: much like Gun Outfit, Dark Times are far more readily identifiable as an "indie" band -- more melody, less heavy -- but also very firmly rooted in punk/hardcore and easily matched with bands on either side of the spectrum. I've still yet to grab the band's self-titled cassette as I'm on a self-imposed record-buying moratorium (which is especially painful considering that I'm currently travelling abroad and seeing all sorts of stuff I could never ever find at home), but lucky enough, the band has made the entire thing available as a mes.bandcamp.com/" target="_blank">free download. No email required, just grab it. "Worlds away" in particular is a great example of the band at their best; a dark trudge brimming with resentment. Still raw like Okkultokrati and Drugged SS, but in a totally different way. I'm way into it.

Is it just me, or does it sound weirdly like the Hellacopters?
