Yeah, it's not all Scandinavian stuff, but whatcha gonna do? Anyhow, those cover EPs are the first in a series in which an artist records 4-5 of their favorite songs. Sounds like fun, so I'm def looking forward to that.

I don't think I've properly expressed just how amazing the new Bear Quartet album is. I posted the first single "I have an itch" m/index.php?story_id=797">a little over a month ago, but I hadn't heard the full album yet. Now that I've time to fully digest and process "Saturday night", I can sincerely attest to what an amazing piece of music it is. The band promised us a mindblowing experience and they delivered. I think a lot of twee indierockers will be scared off by how noisy, sinister and straight-up fucked this album is, but I'm here to assure you - it's worth the challenge. The most intellectually satisfying works of art usually are. So here's another song to pique your interest. Listen to those dense chords shift and build. The chittering vocals. The foreboding wash of reverb and flanger over the breaks. It shouldn't work, but somehow it does.
Upcoming releases from Service Records:
11/09 - Harlem - Game/Watch EP
11/16 - Erik de Vahl - Friendly Fire CD
11/16 - The Embassy - Tacking CD

Just like I suspected, Fat Wreck has licensed the new Randy album "Randy the band" for release in the US and will put it out on January 10. This isn't the first time they've worked together: if you remember that recent 2xCD Burning Heart comp featured a duet with Randy and Fat label honcho Fat mike (also of NOFX). Hopefully this means the band will finally get the attention they deserve when it comes time to promote the damn thing. But what I really wanna know - when's the tour?
French label Ocean music has licensed the album "Unlike you" from Danish melancholy duo munck/Johnsson for release in France and Spain. Details to come.
