Ane and Thomas on the roof

Renown Norwegian singer/songwriters Ane Brun and Thomas Dybdahl will share the stage for the first time on the roof of the Oslo Opera House on August 7. They will be performing their own material as well as duets and will be backed by the Opera Orchestra under the direction of Christian Eggen. Penny Century wrapping up new album, touring the UK

Penny Century, one of my favorite Swedish indiepop acts, reports that their new album is almost done and is tentatively set for a late summer release with a single on the way shortly. As with the band's "Valencia EP", it was recorded at Studio Cobra with Konie. The band is also heading back to the UK next month:

Teddybears vs Dramaten vs Don Carlos

Teddybears have composed new music for Verdi's "Don Carlos" and will be present for a one-off live performance of it at Dramaten in Stockholm on May 31. The music will also be released in a 250-copy limited edition vinyl pressing, available only the night of the performance. Taken By Trees is doing a one-off show at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC on May 25. Fellow Swedes Korallreven will be doing a DJ set.

Rising gets a new drummer, more

Drummer Martin Niemann (ex-Marvins Revolt) has decided to take a break from music and has resigned from his place on the throne for Danish heavy rockers Rising. Jacob Johansen (Anchorless, The Fashion, ex-Lack), who has already previously sat in with the band back in late 2009, will be taking his place. As for the future, the band has cancelled their show with Moloken on May 21 and will instead debut the new lineup on May 28-29, in Göteborg and Malmö respectively, their very first Swedish dates. Otherwise, the band plans to work on their debut full-length for next six months or so and will be touring Europe in September.

Sonic Ritual get temp bassist

Sonic Ritual has announced that Gottfrid Åhman (In Solitude, Invidious) will be filling on bass guitar following the departure of Christoffer Jonsson who will be playing his final show with the band at the Punk Illegal Fest in Göteborg on June 11-12.
