We're now three months in 2009, so how about we take a quick break to recount some of our favorite albums of the year so far? make your opinion known in the comments!
Coming in late April via Sähkö Recordings imprint Keys of Life, the new "VN EP" from Finnish act Villa Nah: m/life-18.php" target="_blank">https://www.sahkorecordings.com/life-18.php
Quoteth the press release: "Villa Nah, a duo of Juho Paalosmaa and Tomi Hyyppä, makes pure electronic pop with plenty of emphasis on catchy melodies and meticulously crafted soundscapes reminiscent of the 1980's."
monolithic, the Norwegian free-jazz/metal duo of Stian Westerhus (Jaga Jazzist, Puma) and Kenneth Kapstad (motorpsycho, ex-Dadafon/Animal Alpha), have finally released their long-awaited debut album "Black science" via Roggbif Records. Apparently said record was recorded back in 2006, but it's taken 3 years to bring it to light.
Promoe has a couple new tracks posted on the Looptroop Rockers site from experiments he did teaching hip-hop school: m/" target="_blank">https://www.looptrooprockers.com/
Finnish indiepop act Cats on Fire have signed with matinee Recordings for a US release of their latest album "Our temperance movement". Expect an April release.
Old-school Swedish death metal act Infernal is back with guitarist/vocalist David Parland (Necrophobic, Dark Funeral) at the helm alongside fellow ex-Necrophobic guitarist martin Halfdan and Dark Funeral bandmate drummer Tomas Asklund (Dissection, Gorgoroth). Long-running folk-influenced Finnish metal act Amorphis will be releasing the new album "Skyforger" in may.
Playground music is reportedly shutting down their Norwegian office and will be taken over by Fairplay Entertainment: https://www.farojournalen.no/pages/nor/2760-playground_legger_ned_fairplay_tar_over
Considering it's the same people (or at least most?), isn't that just business as usual with a new name?
Nomethod has signed a new distribution deal with Border music so that means that their latest release, "Young punks are on the never-never" by Robert Svensson, will be getting a mid-priced rerelease with bonus tracks in the near future. The label also reports that Aerial's next album is mixed and ready to be mastered -- no release date on that one yet either, but I heard a rough cut and my mind was blown. Seriously, they aren't kidding when they say it sounds like Him Kerosene taken to the next level.
