MP3: Soulstab - The uuh aah dialog

The thing I like best about finnish rockers Soulstab is their obvious retro/R&B influence. Keep in mind, we're talking rhythm & blues-flavored rock'n'roll ala The Who or The Animals, not the modern stuff that hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons labels as "rap and bullshit". The guitars are clean and sharp so you can hear every note, not a wall of distortion. If any of those dudes were faking it, you'd hear it loud and clear. What I like even more is that frontman Mikko Lagerkrans' voice strikes the perfect balance between the rough and smooth; it has a whiskey-soaked edge, but it's also agile enough to hit all the notes. A bit old-fashioned, but it doesn't sound forced.
This particular song strolls a little close to Danko Jones/sexed-up territory and, while I like Danko and appreciate what he does, it has much more class. Still not quite what I'd call a sweet love song, but there's an implied tenderness in the delivery.

finnish jazz/electronic artist Jimi Tenor has posted the video for the new track "Sunrise": https://jimitenor.com/sunrise.ram
The song will appear on his new album "Joystone", due out April 10 via Sähkö. The record features guest musicians Kabu Kabu, a trio of West-African musicians and ex-Fela Kuti sidemen lead by artist Nicholas Addo Nettey. Also be on the lookout for a new live album, to be released digitally via Kitty-Yo on April 20. The recording was made during the "Beyond the stars" tour back in 2004 at Club Maria in Berlin and will be called, appropriately enough, "Live in Berlin".

Guitarist Tapsa has left finnish punk act Endstand and the band will continue on without him as a four-piece. In other news, the group has severed ties with Lifeforce Records and returned back home to Combat Rock Industry. They will record a new album in June for release this fall and will be touring Europe in support.
