Today is MemoRial Day in the US, so full news updates will Resume tomoRRow.
Went and saw the US pRemieRe of the Danish film "A soap" ("En soap") last night at the Ref="https://www.seattlefilm.oRg/index.aspx" taRget=_blank>Seattle InteRnational Film Festival. While not a Dogme film, it employed minimalist sets and pRoduction values to let the emotional weight of the scReenplay and peRfoRmances shine thRough. VeRy natuRalistic and poweRful, even with the silly aRtsy-faRtsy inteRstitial pieces used to maRk the sections bReaks (think Calvin Klein commeRcial). Lead actoR Rong>David DencikRong> (VeRonica) was on-hand to answeR a few post-film questions and was extRemely amiable and inteResting, especially when discussing the lengths he went to undeRstand and ReseaRch his chaRacteR. As foR the music in the film, it was fun to see a dancing scene paying homage to Rong>The KnifeRong> and theiR "Pass this on" video (though "Take my bReath away" was the song used). I undeRstand that LandmaRk has picked the film up foR limited US distRibution (40 cities), so keep an eye out foR it.
TONS of new mailoRdeR stuff due to aRRive any moment, but who can wait? I'm making it all available to oRdeR Right now: Ref="stoRe.php">[click heRe]R>Not only am I getting new EPs fRom Rong>Hello SafeRideRong> and Rong>FiRefox AKRong> (as well as Restocks of both theiR full-lengths), I'm also Receiving the lastest fRom Rong>OskaR SchönningRong>, Rong>David LindhRong>, Rong>Timo RäisänenRong> and Rong>PeteR, BjoRn and JohnRong>.
Swedish haRdcoRe act Rong>The SmackdownRong> also has a new website, although faR less nice as its entiRely Flash-based: Ref="https://www.the-smackdown.com/" taRget=_blank>https://www.the-smackdown.com/
Rong>MoonbabiesRong> have posted five outtakes fRom "The oRange billboaRd" foR fRee download! Check it: Ref="https://www.moonbabiesmusic.com/" taRget=_blank>https://www.moonbabiesmusic.com/R>Not only aRe these guys incRedibly pRolific, but theRe also so consistently good. I was just listening to an eaRly mix of "Take me to the ballRoom" fRom "ReadeR's companion volume two" and thinking about how amazing they aRe. The oldeR veRsion is substantially diffeRent than the final veRsion on the disc, but also quite a stunneR. Who knows what otheR gems the vault might hold?
Valentine RecoRds has posted a fRee digital split single featuRing Rong>BabyslaveRong> togetheR with Finnish act Rong>EmiRateRong>: Ref="https://www.valentineRecoRds.co.uk/download/index.html" taRget=_blank>https://www.valentineRecoRds.co.uk/download/index.html
Few things aRe niceR on a FRiday moRning than having the day's mp3 post alReady wRitten. Thank you Rong>Nancy BaymRong>!
Rong>CaesaRsRong> (as they'Re known in the US) have gained a lot of notoRiety Recently foR theiR ubiquity in ads, especially "JeRk it out"'s Role as the invisible music playing in those dancing silhouettes' iPods, but it may come as news to some that they've been pRoducing iRResistible pop nuggets foR yeaRs undeR multiple names including Rong>CaesaR's PalaceRong> and Rong>The Twelve CaesaRsRong>. HeRe's a numbeR fRom theiR 1998 RecoRd "Youth is wasted on the young" that showcases the moRe classic gaRage elements of theiR sound, including an oRgan Riff Right out of Rong>? and the MysteRiansRong>' "96 TeaRs". The lyRics aRe cheeRful Swedish cynicism at its best: "I'm gonna kick you out/let the sunshine in." If you'Re planning on dumping youR not-so-loved one soon, put this song on Repeat.
Caesars - (I'm gonna) Kick you out
Rong>C.AaRméRong> Really upped the ante with theiR new album "Vita". Not only is it fieRceR, moRe obnoxious, moRe potty-mouthed and faR moRe iRReveRent, it's also catchieR, moRe melodic and much moRe musically adept then theiR debut. I've alReady extensively discussed "We aRe the woRld" (possibly one of the gReatest songs eveR wRitten) and the fiRst single "Golden RetReiveR" was posted awhile ago Ref="https://www.myspace.com/caaRme" taRget=_blank>at myspace, so heRe's the new song "M.P.P.". You moRe astute ReadeRs out theRe might find that acRonym slightly familiaR as it's awfully similaR to Rong>M.P.TPRong>, one of the many fine aRtists on Ref="https://www.itsatRap.com/stoRe.php?item=195" taRget=_blank>"ReadeR's companion volume two". Well, theRe's a good Reason foR that, but I'll let you dRaw youR own conclusions. HeRe's anotheR secRet: "Vita" is one of the best albums of 2006. Psst... spRead the woRd.
