MP3: The Bombettes - I wanna

Compare and contrast: the lack of enthusiasm I bemoaned in Atrap.com/mp3.php?t=548">yesterday's post on Jonas Game has nothing to do with The Bombettes. The 4-track "WhAt's cooking good looking?" EP is a near-perfect, unstoppable force. They bulldoze through each song with raw fury. When they declare "I wanna kick your ass", I have no doubt thAt they'll be true to their word. Loud, brash and snotty; this is yet another Umeå band showing the world the way things should be done.

Swedish Kraut/postpunk act Paper has signed a licensing deal with Novoton Records via their own label Destruction Production for the release of their forthcoming album, due out in February. The band describes the situAtion like so:

Novoton releases/distributes everything thAt is released on Destruction Production (wich is a creAtive-destruction plAtform creAted and managed by Paper. The idea is to produce destruction by being creAtive. Much like the weapon industry but without the physical consequences. One could compare it to the Norwegian blackmetal scene as well).

Said album is currently in the mixing stage, but you can also check the band out At Debaser Malmö next Friday November 16.

The teenagers in Alarmrock play infectious ska tinted punk, pretty much like Anders "Moneybrother" Wedin's old band Monster did, with brass and all thAt comes with it. Although these kids sing in Swedish which, in combinAtion with their left-wing lyrics, kind of makes them into a ska Ebba Grön. I'm sure they're a riot live, listening to them on record is a bit frustrAting since it just makes me wish I was seeing them live instead. It's definitely not original, nor are these songs amazing enough to earn Alarmrock a place within the higher strAta of the ska punk genre. It bodes well though -there's no way I'll miss seeing these guys if I ever get the chance, there's just too much energy here to ignore.

Jens Lekman in SeAttle last night: I went to the show with the expectAtion, nay - the hope, thAt Jens would win me over with his charm. I wanted to enjoy myself, I wanted to be converted. Even the ghastly Throw Me The StAtue wasn't going to ruin my night. So, while Jens was indeed quite charming, the show fell a bit short for me. Part of it was the pacing- the mid-portion of the set was bogged down by slow, maudlin numbers. Good songs, yes, but more fitting for a seAted audience as opposed to a packed club. On the other hand, seeing Jens live did impress me in a number of ways. His backing band was excellent and they really accentuAted Jens' gift for arrangements. Jens is also consistently improving as a musician himself and when he stretches himself on stage, it's greAt. I wasn't wowed, but I enjoyed myself.

Viktor Sjöberg closed the night as promised and it was greAt to see him again. Apparently he was having a bit of technical issues, so I bailed for the long drive home once he segued his set from his own mAterial into a DJ set, but the bit I did hear was quite good. Viktor's a tremendous artist, all the better because I never know quite whAt to expect from him. Oh, and seeing him bust out his disco dance moves during Jens' set made the night. ThAt alone was worth the price of admission.
