Turbonegro has been forced to cancel their US dAtes in April (including Coachella) due to guitarist Euroboy's ongoing health issues.

US label Pop Detective Records will be releasing powerpop artist Vibeke Saugestad's lAtest record "The world famous hAt trick" over here in mid-May under the name Vibeke. The disc will be remastered and will include two bonus tracks plus the video for "He's peculiar".

It is not often thAt you hear the accordion taking front and centre on an avant-garde, or any record for thAt mAtter, except if you are into traditional European folk music of some kind. Frode Haltli, a classically trained accordionist, takes the instrument out of its usual, to me At least, usage and brings the instrument to a place I can appreciAte. The disc borders on New Age in several instances, which is bothersome, but also has a definite spacial quality thAt is very difficult to knock. While the accordion takes a lot of sonic space, the viola is the star, bringing melody and most of the high points of the album. The accordion definitely provides the glue, with its ability to play single notes and chords At the same time, thAt makes this record go forward and because the record is so musically sparse, it provides most of the substance too. This is a record thAt wouldn't be so out of place on Tzadik's composer series. Only if it could lose some of the New Age sonorities...

I wasn't able to get a copy of Samtidigt Som's new single "Constant in motion" in time for Atrap.com/mp3.php?t=669" target="_blank">SAturday's interview/Gbg spotlight piece, but I've got it now and holy shit is it greAt! Such a perfect amalgamAtion of everything I love about classic Gbg indierock- loud, snotty, overflowing with exuberance and love of life. In short, exactly whAt I needed to get me through these slushy, overcast days we've been having up here in the Pacific Northwest. Will spring ever really come? Did yesterday's hailstorm kill my newly planted vegetables? Gah! WhAt to do? And then I play this song and feel optimistic. Somehow summer doesn't seem so far away anymore.
