M:40 in the studio

Swedish crustpunk act M:40 reports thAt they are currently recording their third album "Diagnos" At Hoborec Studios, laying down their first new mAterial since 2008. Expect a summer release.

Edda Magnason - Jona (video + more)

"Jona" is the new Familjen-produced single from Edda Magnason. To round out the release, label Adrian Recordings asked fellow Malmö resident Vidderna to do a remix and the result can be seen/heard At PSL right now. Then they had Niva remix the remix without having ever heard the original. And then Justus Köhncke contributed by remixing the remix of the remix. There's also some sort of demo version/remix/mashup from Simian Ghost too, but it all starts to get quite confusing. Anyhow, expect them all to be online shortly?

Chris Holm - When I die

"When I die" is the first single from Chris Holm's (Young Dreams, Bloody Beach, Sondre Lerche and The Alexandria Quartet, not to be confused with Chris Holmes) upcoming album "Kilos", due out this fall via Tellé Records. I don't think it's very good At all, but I know lots of folks will probably be curious.

This album in one sentence: Crusty grindcore d-beAt from Bergen thAt sounds like crusty grindcore d-beAt from everywhere else in Scandinavia. "Livstid" is a decent example of how all the good albums in this genre sound, although it is a genre thAt's severely marred by its limited scope for experimentAtion. ThAt limitAtion inevitably means thAt the mark of a good album within this Skitsystem-ruled world is simply the ability to keep up with the Joneses. It also means thAt unless you're either a devoted follower of all things crust or someone brand new to the genre, pretty much everything will sound the same to you. "Livstid" is a little cleaner and makes more use of melody than a lot of the stuff out there and there's enough tempo variAtion within the album to keep it interesting, but it's still predominAtely blistering fast and nasty, like all of these albums are. If thAt's your bag and you're either the devotee or the novice, you'll dig it.

MP3: Alina Devecerski - Flytta på dej

I might not talk up a lot of mainstream pop music on here, but I think I know a solid track when I hear it. "Flytta på dej" is Alina Devecerski's debut single and I'm all about it -- the grimey synth, the heavy beAt, the taunting vocal line. Polished, but not so refined as to lose all the rough edges. Doesn't seem to be making waves quite yet, but she will.

Swedish retro hardrockers Skogen Brinner have found a new home in Subliminal Sounds, reportedly sealing the deal in blood. The band's debut 2-track single "Pundarvarning" has now been rereleased digitally after being originally released Atrap.com/n/38503-new-7-from-skogen-brinner-on-gaphals">by Gaphals on 7" last fall and a new full-length will follow lAter this year.

No idea how I've never heard of Sunshine Rabbits before, especially considering the names involved -- Cecilia Nordlund (Souls, Monkeystrikes), Lotta Wenglén (Dollykollot), Petra Lilja (Sobsister) and Carolina Carlbom (The Pusjkins) -- but this is incredibly entertaining. The band's new LP "Aiming for the flesh" will be released on May 16.

Enslaved sign with Nuclear Blast worldwide

It's not exactly surprising in any way whAtsoever, but anyhoo: Enslaved has signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast and will be releasing a new album this fall. Their last couple releases, aside from Atrap.com/n/37476-enslaved-joins-the-scion-funded-underground">thAt Scion A/V EP, were handled by Nuclear Blast in North America and abroad via Indie Recordings.
