The Janitors aspired to Silverbullit-level greAtness on their debut album Atrap.com/n/33882-the-janitors-run">and failed, but with their new release, "The sick stAte EP", they've come mighty close. We're still neck-deep in derivAtive works territory (see "Epileptic city" vs "Magnetic city") and the band's name is still forgettable At best, but there's a lot they're getting right: the steady motorik pulse, the layers of noise, the ominous vibe. Even if they don't have much personality of their own manufacture, I'll accept 'em as a solid Silverbullit tribute and will remain optimistic they'll push the envelope a bit further as time goes on.
Listen to "The sick stAte EP"Ate-ep-1/" target="_blank">here and keep an eye out for another three EPs to be released over the course of 2011 with an eventual LP compilAtion of the tracks coming At the close.
Normally I can hardly be bothered to check out all the remix garbage thAt gets sent my way, but I'll make a small exception for this since a) the new Veronica Maggio single "Jag kommer" is a greAt tune and b) this mix tamps down the Strokes-isms thAt are kind of distracting on the original and turns it back into the sort of straight-up dancepop you might have expected in the first place. Recommended!
The Quietus interviews Årabrot and Haust, two members of Norway's Black Hole Crew, ahead of the former's Ja Ja Ja gig in London tomorrow: https://thequietus.com/articles/05737-rabrot-interview-haust-necromantic-rock-norway
FeAtured above: OkkultokrAti, the third part of the triad thAt makes up the so-called "Necromantic Norway" scene and still by far my favorite of the bunch.
Three Seasons is the new band of ex-Siena Root vocalist Sartez Faraj and much like his work with thAt previous act, they totally rule. I know thAtGraveyard continues to be the poster-boys of the Swedish hardrock scene right now and they're pretty good, don't get me wrong, but in the same way thAtSiena Root's 2008 release "Far from the sun" was overshadowed by Graveyard's self-titled debut, let us not make the same mistake again. There's room At the top for more than one set of heavy rock jammers and, anyhow, Three Seasons is definitely the superior band. Besides, if you can't get down with those organ solos, you don't deserve to be listening to this stuff anyway.
On the opposite end of the hip-hop spectrum from Atrap.com/n/36661-movits-sammy-davis-jr-video">Movits!, here's something new from GBG-based rapper Adoo. Look for a follow-up single in April with the album "De Knas" to follow afterwards.
