More semi-goofy Swedish synthpop. This is Dupont's new version of "Dope of love" from the EP of the same name, due out October 29. Sadly, I cannot hear the chorus without being reminded of this.
It's a shame that so many EBM acts such as Code 64 so often have such shamelessly lame teen-angst lyrics because the music is actually pretty good. C'mon now, grown-ass men should not be saying things like "I will never be a puppet of conformity!" with a straight face; there are far more poetic ways to express those feelings if you didn't get over it past high school. I guess you also have to consider the intended audience though and understand that many a basement-dwelling cybergoth oh so desperately wants to be misunderstood. Me, I just want good tunes I can jam without being embarrassed and only a portion of Code 64's new record "Trialogue" fits the bill. That is, if you pay attention to the lyrics. The tunes themselves are actually all pretty decent.
Imperial State Electric and Bloodlights, two overrated rock acts featuring members from bands that used to be good, will be touring together in November and will be putting out a split 7" with the two bands. I'm not sure what Bloodlights is doing, but ISE is covering "Castaway" by Greg Kihn. Dates at myspace: https://www.myspace.com/imperialstateelectric
The new Lykke Li single "Get some" will be posted as a free download on October 25 and will also be available on 7" vinyl b/w exclusive track "Paris blue". As for her next full-length, expect something in early 2011.
Danish act Efterklang has launched a new project called "Efterkids" to promote music education in public schools: https://www.efterkids.com/
Head to the site to see the band "performing" with six students from New York's Special Music School and to download materials to recreate the experience yourself (in your own classroom).
Excellent Malmö-based indie act Pixie Carnation reports that they have finished recording their debut full-length and are now currently mixing/mastering at Svenska Grammofon with Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm (TSOOL). There's no confirmed title or label yet, but the album will contain 11 tracks, including 4 re-recorded versions of songs from the group's "Fresh poems" EP, and it should be out sometime early next year.
Danish heavies Rising are now streaming two brand new tracks at myspace off their forthcoming 7", due out November 29 via : https://www.myspace.com/risingdk
In other news, the band's self-titled debut EP will be getting a much-needed 12" vinyl release on November 29 as well, via German label in an edition of 500 copies, 150 on white.
