MP3: Grande - We did it all
Grande won the 2007 Spellemannprisen in the blues category, but I ignored him completely. I figured it was some old-man dansband type bullshit, so why bother right? You know- the kind of stuff that makes old men with their greased-back hair and classic American cars feel young and tough. Luckily, that's not really the case as Grande does more than attempt to capture a long-gone era that no longer exists. It's especially apparent on tracks like album opener "We did it all", a revved-up, tweaked-out recounting of all the illicit substances he's ingested. It's a potent cocktail of Buddy Holly rhythms mixed with ELO helium vocals and the psycho/silliness of fellow modern Scandinavian rock'n'roll revivalists PowerSolo. Not quite as ragged as, say, Doo Rag/Bob Log III or Black Lips, but they certainly compete with The Black Keys in terms of the rawk. Okay, so a few (okay, many) tracks on the album stray a bit closer to AOR territory like I feared, but I dig this one a lot and that's what matters.
Grande - We did it all
Adrian Recordings has announced the signing of Cato, a mysterious artist they say "is the mastermind behind artists like Familjen, eMiL Jensen and David & the Citizens and one of the most talented persons we have ever met." But instead of any sort of regular physical release, much less a myspace page, Adrian will only be posting his music for streaming at their website, a new track every Wednesday for the next full year. I don't get around to it nearly as often as I should, but there's yet another Myspace focus piece up for your perusal: [click here]

Bobby & Blumm
Everybody loves
Morr Music
Bobby Baby aka Ella Blixt has been on many folk's indiepop-radar for a few years now. Recently, she's put her solo-efforts on hold and joined forces with German multi-talent F.S.Blumm on their project Bobby & Blumm. From the start, this seemed to be an exciting match: Blumm is a classically-trained guitarist who has released a number of mostly instrumental records full of analogue warmth and experimental playfulness. Their debut together, which appears on Berlin's Morr Music label, manages to combine the best of both worlds. Juxtaposed by Blumm's virtuosic yet never intrusive or flashy guitar melodies, Bobby Baby's voice sounds more gripping than ever in these minimal arrangements. At the same time, the songwriting seems more focused than in some of her solo-work, while what remains of her trademark synths greatly adds to the album's otherwise refreshingly analogue sound. Despite all the obvious skills that went into making this record -- all the hisses, rustles and cracks that were carefully put into place -- it still emits a certain calm introspectiveness that makes you want to listen to it again and again.
